Portal: Prelude, as its name states it, is an unofficial prequel to the game Portal. Its story revolves around the pre-GlaDOS epoch, even before she was plugged in. At this time, test subjects were monitored by real Aperture Science employees, whose work was tedious, lengthy and repetitive. This is why they decided to build a great artificial intelligence that could both replace them in these difficult tasks, and also take responsibility for many other tasks within the complex and compete with Black Mesa's superiority. All employees of the Aperture Science complex are now eagerly awaiting GlaDOS. Maybe even a little too eagerly, as the upcoming events will tell... This game is totally free. It offers a bit more gameplay hours than the original Portal, with 8 chapters, 19 test chambers, 48 challenges, 6 advanced maps, a brand new storyline and more than 400 lines of english speech with dozens of subtitles translations.

This has got to be the best mod ever. I won't take P2's story, because of this mod.

In the first few minutes I had with Portal: Prelude, I was very interested and somewhat curious. The voice acting wasn't that good. It didn't sound like a human, it sounded robotic and it gave me the impression the people who were talking were robots. The sign textures were low quality but the rest were fine. The gameplay was good. The test chambers were a refreshing new set of tests I really enjoyed. It was interesting yet cool that you started with the an orange portal gun and not the blue one. The tests were fun and the story was really cool and interesting. All I can say is that this is a must play mod for anybody who owns Portal.

Portal: Prelude is an absolutely stunning ghame only meant for the most hardcore Portal players. That being said, don't let it's difficult looks stop you from enjoying this beautifully crafted mod for Portal. This mod requires the use of a fast hand and quick reflexes, only to climax in one of the best endings I've seen.

The gameplay consists of quick thinking if you're to get through the mazes of Aperture Past. Along the way are diverse puzzles, difficult jumps, and even a pale man in a suit holding a breifcase. And he's upside-down. And, let's not forget the story. You are Abby, skillfully
navigating Aperture Science's test chambers, when all of a sudden, SPOILERS! Sorry, can't reveal it. You'll have to find out for yourself.
Overall Scores:
Graphics: 5/5
Sound: 5/5
Music: 3/5
Story 9/10
Playability: 17/20
Gameplay 39/40
Fun: 13/15
Total: 91/100
Final Score: 9.1

Pretty much a very high quality mod, it fits right into the Portal series storyline.

At some periods in the mod, I thought this was almost Valve-quality.

The only two cons I have found is:

A very monotone and boring voice-acting.
Some puzzles require a weird way of controlling the character, this could have been polished better.

Other than that, everything is as good as it gets for mods!

Before the bossfight I would have given it 8 out of 10 possible points.
The mod looks great, has new ideas and pulls them off quite nicely.
Then the bossfight started and made the whole experience of the mod even better.
I am GLaD that I waited until I have played Portal 2 to write this review. Because now I can say that this mod has the best bossfight from all Portal installments. Seriously, this mod has a better bossfight than Portal 2 and a much better than Portal.
To sum it up: The quality of this mod is between Portal and Portal 2. While it is much better than Portal, it does not come close to Portal 2.
But it is a mod that was released quite a while before Portal 2 was announced, so I'll give it a score as if Portal 2 was never there.
9/10, for a mod that is better than the brilliant game it was made for.
