A.S.I.S.C or the Aperture Science Intelligent Security Construct, was built in the 1970's to replace the security workers that would sleep on the job and who were paid off by other companies to let spies in. The robot was built to survey every room in the lab and was given the ability to close doors, set off alarms and even put out military androids in any room in Aperture Science. It had facial recognition software making it be able to catch spies or unauthorized personnel in the lab 99.9 percent of the time. It was shut down in the 1980's being rendered useless once the Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System or GLaDOS was built.
