It's over...

4 years ago News 15 comments

On year ago, we announced that the development of our project, Portal Combat, was put on hold for an unknown time. It's been some time and you guys might have been wondering what is going on.
The truth is: Absolutely nothing!

It really hurts to say this, but we have decided to pull the plug on this project.

Portal: Combat is dead!

Ever since our development stopped due to lack of dedication on my hand and discrepancies with in the development team, I thought of rebooting the project with an entire new team and a whole new concept.

All these affords, however were proven as a failure and the reboot was canceled before it even started. It's really unfortunate, but I can no longer hold it back from you guys: Portal Combat is dead, forever. The decision was made four month ago, but I just could just not tell you until now, for I was afraid of backlash from the community.

There are several reasons for this unfortunate turn of events, so I will just focus on the significant ones.

The Idea of Portal: Combat began three years ago, when I used to be in 8th grade. I was 13 and knew nothing about development or level design whatsoever. The concept of P:C was way to ridiculous to begin with, for it was made by a 13 year old, that had no clue about anything. I have learned so very much while working on this project and it was a really valuable experience. But I had taken it way to far over the past 2 years. The concept is not realizable, and I was a fool for even thinking this.

Another reason for the failure of this mod, was our management policy. I don't want to get into detail here, but I can assure you that it was a freaking mess.

At this point you are maybe wondering, why I just don't start from scratch and change the concept of the mod. The truth is, that I won't have anytime for that. When I stared with project back in 2008, I used to be in middle school and therefore, I had tons of spare time on my hands. But now, after I graduated, these things have changed. I just have to spend time on more important things.

Again, sorry for disappointing you. This is not just the death of this project, but also my departure from the moddb community. I don't think that you will hear from me again any time soon...

Thanks, for the great time.
This is A.M.M.D. signing off.

We will do if we can port our work to it, for the obvious reason of better source engine version.
But since its a sourcemod, you can use it with any sourcegame ;)

I'm not going to make a big deal out of it, but I noticed you are using one of my texturepacks I released on FPSBanana.

It would have been nice of you to credit me for my work, or at least let me know that you were using the textures for your modification.

This mod isnt released in any kind, so you shouldnt complain about credits, since the credits (usually) are in the game.
I dont know if we actually have textures from this pack (Btw, content in it from you? If not it also could be from somewhere else) but since these are just preview pictures, we may change everything and we will not, in any case, give credits for textures or placeholders in our pictures, thats senseless.

If any content created by you will be used, you will find yourself in the credits.

Whether you're going to use my textures or not, you're currently displaying them as it's all your work. I thought you'd have the dignity to let authors of your 3rd-party content know that you're using their work before you display it as your own production.

There's nothing senseless about giving the original authors credit for their work, whether you're making a mod or a map. By saying it's senseless, it looks like you don't really give a damn about who's content you're using.

Also, if my textures are just "placeholders", why didn't you just use the default HL2 / Portal textures?

You can see several of my textures used in this map:

As said, credits will be in the final game.
