Updates
Today we have released the finished model of Charizard, one of three pokemon that will feature in the first version of the mod, which i finished today. Hopefully you will enjoy it. The project is obviously hence-forth back in buisness and our team will now start burrowing its way through the mountain of work that weve got ahead. Expect a trickle of new media as things continue with new pokemon and hopefully soon some revamped maps.

I don't know why, but I feel this would be a mod better suited to the Oblivion engine than Source. Pokemon for me was as much about the journey around the country-side than it was battles with other trainers.
You may have your heart set on making it in Source, but I would at least consider trialing it in Oblivion too. As far as I can tell you are still in the early stages of development - modelling some of the Pokemon, but these can be just as easily imported into Oblivion as Source :) The benefits of trialing it there first would be using the pre-made scale of the Oblivion world map to roadtest the gameplay dynamics.
Either way, I wish you luck with the mod!
The Oblivion engine would be a good way to go, but so would CryEngine 2. The giant, open land with beautiful graphics. Imagine seeing a Rapidash doing it's thing and dashing across the screen in the graphic beauty of CryEngine 2.
But Source wouldn't be too bad either. Look at Eclipse's world. I wouldn't have thought a fantasy world like that could come from Source. I mean, I knew it could be possible, but I just wasn't expecting it. So, I'm not sure if I'm defending Source or not, but maybe we should just wait to see what they come up with.
I know the guys at the GuildHall put together a nice large landscape for Eclipse - proving it's possible, but it's still all going to be quite a challenge. I suppose you could use ANY in-game environment, just something that would be both in your scope as well as the players. You wouldn't want to create a nice mod using the CryEngine2 and have no-one able to play it ;)
Perhaps the CryEngine1 would be cool? The landscape for FarCry always seemed a little 'cartoony', by which I mean they used a very vivid palette with perfect blue oceans. Would seem to fit in with the anime-pokemon look quite well, plus it's been around longer so there's more chance of support from fellow modders :)
I just wouldn't want to see you or your team set the bar too high and not feel able to complete the project, because I know there would be a lot of people willing to play this mod *looks over comments* Go with the engine that may not look the shiznit, but lets you work on the gameplay mechanics. That's why I suggested using a premade environ - it'll let you concentrate on the gameplay.
Sorry if it seems I'm going off on one at you! I'm not trying to lecture, just provide useful advice :D I, like many, would like to play this in the future!
Well, I'd have no problem with CryEngine 2 since I have Crysis and can run it with settings maxed, but yeah...other people would have problems with it. I just would like to get more use out of Crysis since I bought it and was really let down and the great looking mods for it seem to be the only reason it's staying on my computer. But I'm selfish like that :P
Hmm, true. A lot of it was about the journey. But I've never played oblivion, nor do I own a copy, so I would be sad if the engine was changed :(
I suppose, though, you could make a (decent) version of Pokemon Stadium (which sucked) on Source.
Still, I'd like to see a mod/game that takes place in the Pokemon world, but not necessarily with all the pokemon gameplay mechanics, ie. not making it turn-based. Think real-time action RPG.
But, I wouldn't be sad if the traditional pokemon-style gameplay were ported over to Source, either.
I guess it's too much to ask for both :(
im watching it. Cant wait to see where it goes
O also looking for help either modelling or texturing?
I am SO watching this.
Ambitious.
Cliché? maybe, but will there be mudkipz?
