Intention

Pillars is a total conversion mod for Doom 3. We have designed a set of new gameplay elements which are being implemented into the game.
The present team consists mainly of university students from the University of Stuttgart. Three of us are studying architecture, two are students of computer sciences and one is a professional programmer. Since we will be given marks for this work the team is highly motivated spending up to ten hours a day working on this project.

Storyline

Emerson Tex is a service technician with the governmental Department of Structure Security. His boring, alcohol-hazed life is disrupted by a short video message which forces him to take up the fight against the government.

The plot is set in a world in which the gap between rich and poor has grown so wide that two completely different societies have evolved. Interaction between these two societies has completely ceased. The upper class has built gigantic structures - the Pillars - high above ground level and are ruled by a government that denies their citizens the right to any knowledge about the people left behind on the ground level.
But forces in the background are plotting a downfall and Emerson finds himself in the middle of this monstrous cover-up. Targeted by the government, shunned by society and used by shady rebels, he starts his descent into this hazardous adventure.

Hi,

The Pillars team is a team of Students at the University of Stuttgart / Germany. The Semester project - an internal alpha version - is finished and we proudly presented our work yesterday. We got A, so horay for us. ;)

Anyway, the project is going to continue as some of us will do their master degree in the winter semester 07/08 which will be the finished game.

Since the last news we got several more levels in-game, added an enemy soldier and reworked the HUD.

Please visit us at Pillars.de
and our Moddb Profile.

The Pillars team is searching for skilled Texture Artists.

Personally, I think you should stick with the current un-skinned models. For some reason the black/white/grey style is really awesome.

very nice work here! Just a little bit of advice, the 'dome' roof on that one level will probably be too heavy for Doom 3 to run smoothly. I would suggest you use the relief mapping mod as that will created an 'almost' as effective look, especially from that distance and wont take up nearly the same amount of processing power.

You can download the mod here : Doom3.filefront.com

extract the vpf file into your glprogs folder, then all you need to do is add an alpha channel to your specular maps, and put an inverted heightmap (so white will be high, black low) into it. Then it should look cool!

keep up the good work

i think it would be better with red blood, making it stand out, not so much for the sake of knowing if you got a kill or not, but so it stands out against the surrounding environ.
