Petrograd: an action-thriller first person shooter. Enter the shoes of a Black-Ops Special Agent, investigating the disappearance of a full city's population overnight. An eerie atmosphere and immersive environments are just the beginning, nothing is quite what it seems in this suspenseful experience set in post-USSR Eastern Europe. The purpose of this project was to create a trailer with near triple-A quality, that goal was achieved on Feb 2009, and thus this project has concluded. Well guys we've been pretty busy the past couple of months working on models and environments for Petrograd and now we have finally started working on gameplay. I know some of you have been wanting to see some in-game screenshots - so I decided to do you one better and upload some actual gameplay footage. Note that this is 'proof of concept' pre-alpha footage - far from being anywhere near complete.




As always - feel free to leave comments. Feedback from you guys is most definitely appreciated - it keeps us motivated. Expect to see more updates in the coming weeks.

Excellent work! I know this stuff is just pre-alpha, but I think it'd be awesome if you could attach a rappelling device to a part of the roof and zip down. Do you guys plan to implement something like this?

It's actually something I'd love to do - but our team is small and stretched pretty thin as it is. I would need another animator/rigger to help set that up.

Looks like a cool mod i will buy the game if the mod turns out well :P

I got a couple of suggestions if you dont mind :P

1. Make good use of the engine, it would have been awesome if we could snipe people from moving elevators or shoot a hole in a rope so containers falled down onto enemies. Create some cool "stuff" we could pickup and meele or throw : a broken beer bottle, a stone, a chair and if possible you could pickup a shield.

2. Remove the health bar, instead do what cod 4 did, they have those blood effects and painful sounds so you easily "SEE" the pain ,in regular crysis you have to keep an eye on the health bar all the time. An dont make the character uberpowered, if someone hits you three times in the chest you are dead.

3. Stealth, i hope you make many maps where you have to do things silently with a pistol and maybe you would have to meelee people with a knife if you plan to add a knife to the game.

4. Weapons, please make some custom guns, it would be really cool to see some classic weapons in the game, may i suggest:
Desert Eagle (no silencer as it should be), USP (pistol), AG-3, G36C, M4, AK-47 (you seriously gotta consider this weapon). And a real ACOG sight and Grenade launcher. I am not asking you to put all these weapons in game but just for consideration.

5. Maps, original and creative maps! make use of the powerful engine. Lots of bad guys. Vertical gameplay (like the map in the video) where you need to look up and down basically. Remeber to make lots of hiding places on such maps. And missions where you are on a rooftoop and have to clear the landing for a helicopter, that would turn out to be a cool fight.

6. BOOM! Explosions and massive destruction is something that adds lots of fun to the game. Put some exploding barrels different places, make some missions where the characters gets to set up claymores before the enemies get there and watch as cars explode when the bad guys cause the claymores to go off.

Some more suggestions:

7. Gadgets, nothing more to say than a little list of suggestions: Calymore mines, AT mines, C4, nigth vision, grenade launcers, radar device, GPS, Binoculars, rappeling device as mentioned by "decyx" and what about airstrikes. Double 0 seven is on the loose. And doors with a codelock (you download a flowgraph from crymod) where you have to find the code in the map.

8. Vehicles, i dont really care if i will be driving any vehicles but what about a cutscene where a helicopter transfer you to the destination and a vehicle ready to pick you up at the end of the day where you (maybe) can shoot from the window. And its cool when the enemies have vehicles and a big squad jumps out and you C4 them all!

I am not asking you to add everything, just CONSIDER it!

1 - We are making good use of the engine, but we are waiting on the Warhead SDK before we progress any further.

2 - The HUD will be different from Crysis.

3 - There may be some stealth elements in the final level - we'll just have to wait and see.

4 - We already have custom weapon models - you'll see them in the coming months.

5 - Yes we will have lots of vertical gameplay

6 - Yeah we will have explosions lol

7 - Sure - but like I said earlier our team is small and stretched thin. We can do some of that stuff, but we're trying to get this mod released quickly so more stuff just makes it take longer.

8 - We will have some stuff like that.

Very nice. The only suggestions I have are to use some valvish ideas where parts of the map are a little pre-booby trapped. What I mean is that you can shoot a barrel forcing it to explode causing a container to come crashing down on a group of enemies.

While these pre-existing conditions seem corny because there already set it, they are NEVER short of fun to see the enginuity of the developer and the fact that you just squished 5 enemies into the ground.

Also, this warehouse is really nice it looks like it has alot of replayability. The beginning where you had to unstealthily jump down into wasnt though. Maybe a vent that goes into the building that you crawl through from the roof instead?... cs_assault style. ;)

Yeah we will probably try to incorporate some of that - but I don't want to copy off of HL2 too much. Physics puzzles are fun for sure - but they aren't really suited to our style of game.
