This mod will evolve your Max Payne 2 experience to a whole new level, one step closer to its successor Max Payne 3. With new models, weapons, animations, graphic effects, sounds, particles, and so on this mod will improve your good old Max Payne 2 to make it shine again in the next generation gaming.
A mod that MUST be played. Starting from the huge details, such as new animations, the weapon system, the sounds, to small details and add - ons, like the optional attachments, the added Dead Man Walking stages, along with the option to choose a character to play with, from Classic Max from the first game, to Bald Max from the latest Max Payne 3. There is genuinely nothing I can hate about this. Sure, it has quite a number of bugs; for example, I cannot attach flashlights to my guns, my game crashes. Also, the inventory system is somewhat flawed, as mostly I pick up guns I didn't want to, and you can easily lose all the ammo you collected for a gun you wanted to use, BUT Silver itself stated that this is the only way to make it similar to Max Payne 3, and it also adds a new feeling to the game. I find it much more fun to think through what weapons you will use, instead of having an abundance of weapons, not knowing which one to use. I already completed the game once, and I'll be sure to complete it more times. There's not much to spoil, and I won't spoil anything for people who haven't played the mod yet, or people who didn't complete it, but expect a huge surprise at the last chapter. While I don't find any problems with this mod at all, I feel like a small number of soundtracks from Max Payne 3 should have made their way into this mod. Don't get me wrong, there can be found music from Max Payne 3 in this mod; take for example the "Club Moderno" stage in Dead Man Walking. Silver himself stated he doesn't want to include soundtracks from the third game, since he wants this mod to improve upon Max Payne 2, not make it feel exactly like Max Payne 3. But I honestly think that a lot of people would like the option to listen to HEALTH's score while playing through this. In all honesty, I had high expectations from this mod, especially with Silver proving himself with Payne Effect 3, but this mod is something beyond that. In short, a perfect mod, 10/10.
I was really excited for Payne Evolution, because I too thought Max Payne 3's gameplay would work well in the noir environment that is Max Payne 2.
The gameplay is as close to Max Payne 3 as it could get. From the weapon wheel, takedown moves to cinematic bullet-time, it's all great. And when you're in a shoot out, the game just sucks you in. Paper and other particles just flying everywhere, the blood-curling sound that your enemies make when you blast them in the head, it's amazing.
I'd never think Max's model from MP3 would work in Max Payne 2, but he just strolled in and made the game his home. You can learn more about Max's addiction(?) and his view on things through the comments that he makes when he picks up painkillers or kills an innocent person, which is a nice touch. The only thing the gameplay leaves out is the cover system, but we could all do without that.
The ability to have all weapons in your slots gave you too much freedom in my opinion, so I thought the weapon wheel would be a good idea. The weapon wheel is fast and convenient plus, it adds more strategy, but manually picking up ammo can be a real pain sometimes, and if you accidentally switch out your weapon for another one, you can't get it back. And sometimes, there may be cuts in the dialogue during gameplay, or the cutscene before the comic cutscene.
Overall, this is the greatest mod for Max Payne 2 I've ever played and I'm not just saying that. Users may have reported other bugs, but I'm pretty sure there will be a patch for it. Keep up the awesome work, The_Silver.
This mod is a triumph among Max Payne 2 mods. The model of Max alone is worthy of praise. I find it amazing that the HUD and weapon selection could be so drastically changed. It is awe inspiring, but it still has a number of bugs that make certain things tedious, like picking up ammo for the gun you are holding, but accidentally also picking up another guns ammo, which then replaces the gun you actually want in the new limited inventory, and you can't get it back.
All in all it is a very beautifully made mod. The new filters don't get in the way of the original ambiance, the bullet hit indicator is a welcome addition, and the lengthened bullet-time during falls was greatly needed.
I love it, yet it's not perfect. But, hey, 9/10 ain't bad.
You amaze me time and time again. You keep on making the original Max Payne levels fun and more difficult to play, and i've played through it a gazillion times. With this really kicking some serious butt! Many of the things you've done here is something i've tried myself, but failed! Congrats on this masterpiece mate! And hoping to see more mods on this engine or even on a new engine :O
