So long, Earth. Catch you on the flip side.
As mentioned when we announced Overwatch last week, this July 14th will mark the one year anniversary of our first build, making it the perfect date for our first closed release.
Over the past 12 months, our team has made over 2400 posts on our internal discussion board, 1300 additions and modifications to our asset base and 550 reports on our issue tracker. It is only the beginning and we still have a long way to go.
We were fortunate enough to recently demo Overwatch to three of our closest friends: the folks with the big wrench, a giant gun-wielding samurai warrior, and none other than the most popular plumbing company in the world. They have all shown great interest and were kind enough to give us a ton of feedback.
Speaking of which, Dave (Henley), ModDB's executive editor, discussed his experiences while playing Overwatch on Podcast17's 90th episode. Definitely worth a listen!
And now, it's your turn.
Overwatch is still at a very early stage of development. It is progressing at an amazing pace but we need your help to make it the best video game it can be.
Get invited to play Overwatch.. On July 14th, we will be sending out a first batch of 25 invites, which will go out to some of our long-time followers and active community members. We will send out more invites every Wednesday after that, and even allow players to invite their own friends! It will not be long before you get yours in the mail.
Post your feedback.. Since our community's feedback is so important to us, we will be selecting active members to be the first to take part in our closed release. So head over to our community site, which serves as a central location for everything Overwatch, register an account (or log in via Twitter or Facebook using the small icons at the top-right) and post some of your thoughts. With the six in-game screenshots we just uploaded, you should have quite a bit to talk about, both good and bad. Don't be shy!
While you are there, be sure to read our first Blog, which introduces the different areas of our community site and explains how you can use it to contribute in every possible way.
Artist, we need YOU.
Last but not least, we are looking for talented artists to join our team! Take a look: Moddb.com
See you in-game!
I am so excited! Too bad I'm not a modder, I only made a few maps for my clan in CSS.
I look forward to trying this and seeing how the execution is.
July 14th
lookin forward to playing this at some point. Its a really nice concept, and could be executed pretty nicely since you guys are focusing on the mechanics. Wish best of luck to you guys so you can get this perfected
Can't wait to play this game, it looks very promising!
i wish you can play as combine or can you?
"Rebels have their usual assortment of weaponry to fight off the enemy (guns, explosives) as well as a few surprises to aid members of their own squad (ballistic shield, health packs).
The Overwatch, on the other hand, has the might of the Combine forces at his disposal, both humanoid and synth, as well as the ability to affect the world they are all in (breaching walls, collapsing escape routes)."
read and enjoy.
Wahey, what kind of artists do you need?
Hi Ekonk,
The Jobs board post is still pending approval. I've posted the same information here: Moddb.com
July 14th..
You know what?
I marked that day in my calendar with red letters, because your mod is soo awesome!!
I did not. I know mod will be nice, but I don't have any calendars.
And I'm not sure about its awesomness. Maybe it will be just nice FPS and RTS mix?
I look forward to this!!
Dev textures, yummy :D
I really like this approach, no time spent into visuals that can be hard to alter for gameplay changes, making for a highly gameplay oriented approach.
That's really the way to do it, keep it up guys!
My thoughts exactly :)
Some nice game concept you got there ,good luck for the release looking forward to this.
I really love the concept of this game it's great. The levels look good so far just need some nice futuristic textures :D and props :D.
Wouldn't be easier to just post the mod on the download section instead of this invite nonsense?
I mean why are you limiting it?
Because of the frequency of our updates, we feel making Overwatch available via the Desura platform would make it much easier for our players to stay up-to-date. Since Desura is still in closed beta, our invites basically also grant access to Desura.
That doesn't make much sense to me because you could use this Desura thing and still post the download here on moddb but w/e.
Wouldn't you find it annoying to have to download a .zip or .exe every week or two?
If more people would like an option to download the files, I have no objection to it. Best thing you could do is start a poll on our community board.
wow sound interessing : ) . It's a pity that i have no friends that have whatced this mode longer than me..
Nice! This is kinda like Zombie Master - zombies + combines!
Pity that I have no friends that actually play Half-Life 2 mods. Or go to this site/IndieDB.
This is looking pretty sweet
