Description

This is a portion of my upcoming Half-Life 2 mod: Overheid. I've got lots more in the pipe, but I wanted to get some feedback now so I know if I'm on the right track or not.

It's competent but not great. The pacing is all over the place, due mostly to the near-constant presence of the helicopter.

Can you elaborate on the pacing? It was very deliberate, so if I got parts of the pacing wrong, I'd like to polish them.

It almost never lets up from start to finish, yet most of the time you can't actually harm the helicopter. Plus you're sprint-jumping along a quay without any context or any aim in mind.

What you've got is a section that might work as part of a large whole, if it was smaller / included a vehicle.

Yeah. Put like that I see what you mean. This is actually part of a much larger whole. But the rest of it isn't ready yet, and I wanted to get a polished portion of gameplay out so I could get feedback.

It is a bit intense to start out with the heli on your ***, but once the rest of the mod is finished it shouldn't feel out of place.

Thanks for the feedback!

Great mapping, very well done. No bugs found, no sticky ladders (hooray).
I agree with a commenter about the helicopter. A good mechanic to get us to rush around to start with but thought it overdone. Perhaps have it fly away when you use the drawbridge control and have us fight the Combine grunts with the odd Elite thrown in?
I nearly died in easy, I hate to think what would have happened in Normal or Hard.
The helicopter was hard but not overly hard as is done in many mods where you have to keep hitting it like 30 times.
Frame rate dropped a little in the container storage depot.
Loved the crane part so that you can build a defensive area to take out the helicopter.
Then it was over - Bother!
Nice, please keep it going.

I like what I see so far but, is there a way to disable the background music? I have the music volume turned off. I am assuming the music is a triggered event of sorts.

Thanks!

I don't think you can disable the background music. And in my mod, at least, I treat background music like any other sound, so the game wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyway. Sorry.

I find the music during combat tends to drown out important sounds like the enemy combatants. The sounds of machinery, footsteps, a nade being thrown, helicopters, or the just the sound of waves against the shore is much more enjoyable.

I know music helps set the tone but maybe in movies. Even L4D I have turned off the music and all there is the environment sounds. I just personally like to have the option of off or on.

How can you play L4D without music? It's thanks to the music you know when something's gonna happen and ****.

I wasn't aware that you could have HL2 without being tied into Steam. I imagine there's a way to make mods work on non-Steam installs, but I have no idea what that would be. Sorry.

just played it, it was quite nice, especially that part where you have to wait until the bridge is down was quite satisfying, although you still could make the combat area there a bit more complicate, I was jsut sitting at an edge where the copter couldn't hit me and shot down the combines who cam from left and right.
