I've made a post about the Development of Out Of Hell which I realize is a few years too late but may still prove interesting to read! I talk about the process, some of my struggles and the decisions behind why I did what I did.
You can check it out here: Crcdevblog.wordpress.com Enjoy! :)

How do you install this? The readme instructions are worthless... I think what I need to do is mess around with the shortcuts. Any ideas?
Installation instructions are right in the Readme and are succinct. Extract the Out_of_Hell folder into your ut2004 install directory, done. At that point you can enable it within UT2004 like you would any other mod, or you can use the shortcut supplied in the folder, so long as you make sure its link reflects the folder you installed it in.
Right. Unfortunately, I do not know how one enables a UT04 mod. And which .exe file should the shortcut be referencing? It's not clear.
Seems like a masterpiece of modding. Just started download.
Hey, uh, is the game supposed to drop framerate so much?
I just got the Unreal Pack on Steam and my first thought was to get this mod. But I keep getting Framerate issues, since this is on a somewhat "old" engine, I was supposed to be getting +40 FPS when I'm getting 30 ~ 20 FPS a major part of the time.
The External Console is filled with the following Error Reports:
Error: DrawNumericWidget() draw style mis-match
Error: DrawSpriteWidget () draw style mis-match
Is this a problem on my end? I tried applying the patch/reinstalling but it keeps having these optimization problems. It's not really unplayable, but it's frustrating.
I'm using the Steam Version. I believe everything should be patched.
Thank you.
Sorry for the framerate issues. Out Of Hell is a resource hog and a beast, so being able to run UT2004 on maximum settings isn't an indication that Out Of Hell will run well.
The community has some tips to improve framerate which you can find here:
Outofhell.freeforums.org
Also, try fooling around with the fog distance slider (added in OOHPatch V1). That should squeeze out a few extra frames. :)
No hopes for some in-house optimization?
Because let's be honest this is not "Crysis", and it shouldn't behave like so performance-wise. Specially when everything is on the lowest settings.
Hey, I know this mod is somewhat aged a bit and you've moved on to different projects, but there's plenty of people out there (like me) who could totally play it after an Unreal games sale or so, and enjoy it. Might aswell just release a final patch for more advanced Processors and such, since that seems to be the problem.
Drop on by the blog for the Halloween update! :)

Wow, thank you!! I agree with the onscreen dialogue suggestion and will always have onscreen dialogue in my future work. While VO's are great, I personally prefer interpreting the voice my own way through reading the text. :)
:) Ha. That reminds me playing Planescape Torment. My Mom always found (and finds) it amusing how I read dialogues aloud in different voices.
Well - it's your call. I just made a suggestion. :)
