Opposing Force 2 is an ambitious Half-Life 2 modification that focuses on making an unnofficial sequel to Gearbox Software's award winning game: Opposing Force. As many gamers think of Opposing Force as one of the greatest FPS games ever, modders making a sequel is an obvious possibility. Although many have tried and failed this project has come further than anyone else's and seems to have a bright future.

The game takes place in the Seven Hours War aftermath. Fighting against blood shedding synths and frightening aliens, Adrian Shephard has to struggle his way with his fellow comrades from the Phoenix Command, with the main objective of stopping the construction of a Combine Citadel. In his journey he will find what has happened to the world, six months after the Seven Hour War.

The team has been busy and right now finishing Opposing Force 2 on our own is unfeasible. We're going to release all of our assets (including models, textures, sounds, maps and map files, documentation, the source code and the game as it is) that we've produced up until now on Github. We hope that you understand from this "alpha" release that we have worked hard but ran into our own personal projects and can't focus solely on the modification anymore. This release comes before mid July.

Regarding the future of OF2 we plan on making this a collaborative project & work with our fans towards a full release. If we went with this approach anyone would be able to contribute with any sort of content. Even fans not familiar with game development could pull requests to get stuff added, which would really allow us to engage the community.

While a big part of work shown in the demo is still WIP, it is an overall enjoyable experience, which will allow the player to feel how the mod will play...

I've talked to MenteR on Steam. One of the dev's Chris has to do some **** like re-code some things but don't have the time or motivation now.
It's up to that guy now.

The GitHub hasn't been updated since September.

I think it's on hiatus.

It's not even the entirity of the mod like they said either.

They already stated that they were basically too busy, and they also said all of the assets they've produced, not "the entire mod."

Even the mod lead himself is busy with more promising projects than OF2 right now. I'm not saying OF2 isn't a beautiful project, it's just that we have switched gears as a team. People are getting busy with work, college, and other projects that are pretty ambitious. I'm happy you are keeping a look out. Heck. I remember how long I waited for Black Mesa. That was about 6 or more years. There were more elements we added in OF2. Some of the engine limitations date the engine. We really had quite the ambition as you can tell by some of the screenshots. I'm also sure we lost quite a bit of the members around 2013. The team is tiny now. I remember I was one of the more full time guys working on it, of course, with Menter being the one slaving away. His work is admiriable, and I remembered that I wanted to play some of the maps he was making, but he hadn't uploaded them to the SVN. It really inspires and motivates me when the whole team is contributing and I can see and experience their own work.
