Something's off about that small pile of rubble in the lower-center portion of the screen. No shadows?
Besides that, looking sharp as always.

everything we do has a reason.

i can't put shadows on those small piles of debris because if you look at them from the other side of the avenue the shadows will render but the model won't. that happens because of the fade scale.

plus it's not noticeable in game since you'll be looking at them from ground level.

Maybe add a little more dirt and debris around it then, don't do too much but it still needs more than that. It just looks awkward.

wtf how do the hl2 trees keep migrating to other games?! Gordon couldn't defeat them, but maybe Shepard can.

Looks good.

Also did you guys ever consider reskining the strider to look like the beta white version? The default strider is the locally produced version made on earth for the occupational forces so yea it would make more sense if yours was white since its part of the Combines initial invasion force.

Some thing like this for example.
Gamebanana.com

Ranger.gamebanana.com
Ranger.gamebanana.com

Now onto critiquing the map it self.

Over all ts very well made but the lack of cars/vehicals on the roads its a bit odd. More city like props over all would greatly enhance the environment & atmosphere of the mod. it looks too barren as it is now.

The lack of stop lights is also a bit odd. Some knocked down & broken/blown apart trees & tree props would also give the map more of a war torn feel.

Most of the buildings windows should also be blown out since Portal storms have been raging for some time already & as seen in HL2 EP1 they produce shockwavs of wind that are strong enough to shatter steel railroad bridges. Not all of the have to be broken but those facing the direction of an active portal storm should have about 70% of their glass shattered or damaged in some way.

For an added war torn feel you should also include burned out & shattered wreaks of US Army Marine Corps, & or National Guard units who would have had the 1st unlucky contact with the Combine. Any thing from Burned/blown apart out Humvee's, Cargo Trucks, Bradly APCs, Striker IFVs, M1A1 & M1A2 Abrams MBTs, & even some crash sites of USAF & US Air National Guard planes & Army/Marine helicopters.

Of course not all in this one area of the map but in general areas of the city I mean.

Burnt & or severed/decayed corpses& parts of soldiers & civilians are also recommended. After all its the fall of mankind as we know it & I doubt it was in any way humain & non graphical.

So far its a great WIP but it still has yet to convey the atmosphere & environment or a truly devastated city wrought but 1st parasitic infestation of Xen aliens & then torn to pieces by the later invading Combine.

As always keep up the great work guys.

there are stop lights on the intersection. and we can't just blow the buildings, that would look terrible. the buildings already have shattered glass too except for that one, you can see it on our facepunch thread or my steam account.

it's not a portal storm btw, it's a portal that the combine used to get something on earth, so no, buildings shouldn't be blown. plus it'd look like crap in game. and the lack of vehicles makes sense because they evacuated the city on the initial invasion. there are a BUNCH of military trucks and cars on this map and you can see a few from this angle if you fullscreen the picture.

we'll maybe reskin the strider.

and there isn't a parasitic infestation, xen aliens sticked to the outskirts, sewers and interiors since on the city it's war most of the time.

we do have shattered stuff, vehicles, etc but a single screenshot doesn't define the entire city chapter. you got a lot of "read: a lot" into you which defines you as a sort of ideas guy. we appreciate that but sometimes you just state the obvious.

Ah I c it makes sense now. But still some abandoned civilian vehicles would be seen.

And sorry if I state the obvious at time :P its a bad habit.

I agree with there being bodies lying around, and not all the citizens would make it out.But still, great job! And I would also make the streats and sidwalks a little less shinny.

Don't worry guys, the burn out military vehicles and dead body piles are on my list of stuff to do. And I'll fix the specularity maps on the sidewalk + road so they don't look wet.

Here's the facepunch thread btw. Facepunch.com
