Media Release 2015

Hi there and welcome to this year's first and, oddly enough, singular update!
There's a lot to talk about, so let's get right to it:

First off, we'd very much like to apologize for the lack media releases on our part. While we did intend to focus more on the actual task at hand and spend less engery on presenting it, we didn't expect things to get so busy and found ourselves pushing our updates further and further.
As many of you may have noticed, our website is currently down. That's mainly due to technical and usability issues. We are however setting up a new forum and hope to interact more with you guys once that's up.

NPC Recruit Operation Black Mesa: Recruit

But, and this comes from the whole team: We are very thankful and touched to see so many of you being as excited as ever, hanging in there, showing your support and even boosting us into the top 100 on MOTY albeit having heard and seen nothing for almost 2 years. It really means a lot to us and it's a great reassurance that a lot of folks want this mod to exist as much as we do. A big thanks to all of you; keep being awesome!

Status Update

So, what's the status on Operation Black Mesa and Guard Duty?
They are both being worked on with full energy and equal priority.

Guard Duty is being developed as DLC / expansion for the bigger and more content-heavy Operation Black Mesa, so it won't require an extra greenlight campaign. So if you are especially interested in Guard Duty, be sure to check on Operation Black Mesa; we report on both mods side by side as they are very close together in terms of progress.

As a token of us being very much alive and kicking as ever (or early Christmas presents if you will), enjoy the rest of our previews:

Seeing how good this game looks makes me wonder if you guys are planning to release some or all of your assets for public use. You probably hate hearing this, but Crowbar Collective did it and there are some great content in their workshop, or separate mods on moddb.

Hello Operation Black Mesa Team and to all.The only reason why im register here today it because im tracking this mod since 2009 so i have a lot to say and cant wait for future release. In my opinion Opossing Force are much better than Half-Life 1 ,cos there are not so many boring chapters like Residue Processing,Xen,Office Complex, also we spend much more time on the surface instead of canals and radioactive waste areas(blast pit, power up).HECU are much more smarter than guards and have a lot of funny dialogues, also i prefer to play with HECU soldiers instead of exploring black mesa alone.Yes its shorter than Half-life 1 but its only because devs just cut out these "fillers" so you lost nothing.Gearbox introduced here a new HECU clases(medic, engineer, gunner),ropes for climbing, they expanded half-life lore with race-x,instead of boring on a rail we have a squad battles vs black ops which are much harder to kill than hl1 HECU.And all these references to hl1 in we are puling out and we are not alone chapters just making game atmophere so good.Game is much darker than hl1 and Shepard feels yourself even more abandoned than Freeman was.Hope you will expand these surface chapers, maybe even introduсe some new black ops classes, new dialogues, new scenes like it did Crowbar Collective, and you will need to work hard to reach their level cos they worked on it for 11 years, and even more harder for you to make it better than black mesa how opposing was compared to half-life 1.About price policy i hope it will not cost more than 20$ because you saw how ppl was angry(not me) about "paid mods" in steam even with free mod version.I will buy it immediatily after release. Good luck to OBM team and cant wait for future infos about development.

Hey there! It's alwayse good to hear that people like our work. We know that the expectations are high and that we need to deliver a good product because Opossing Force is a beloved addon from one of the greatest game series. I can say that we are loyal to the original atmosphere but we will try to add a lot more content. I think you will like the final product.

With Matt "MenteR" Graef's take on Opposing Force facing an untimely demise couple years ago and ceasing development, I am very very happy to have discovered this mod. I absolutely adore original OP4 and how much darker and more difficult it sometimes was compared to HL1. Dare I say, I personally think OP4 is better than HL1.

Anyway, compliments aside [though you guys defo deserve praise], I have a question:

By "greenlit", does the team mean "will appear on steam at a price" or is there a different meaning to it?
If anything, that is not a criticism - I paid for Black Mesa, I will definitely pay for this as well, even if some people [excuse the pun] are opposed to the idea of so-called "paid mods". I, on the other hand, believe that excellent work like this should be rewarded.

Finally, I would also like to know if OBM will have a steam store page any time soon?

Apologies if any of these have been answered in the past, but 358 pages of comments is a tad much and the news articles don't outright state that.

Thanks for the work, thanks for keeping a great oldschool game fresh <3

First of all, thank you for your kind words. Greenlit means that we can post our game on steam (free/paid) We are still discussing if we are going for a paid version. We alwayse promised that this will be free so there is going to be a free version anyway. OBM won't be on the steam store page soon. We want to deliver a full game with Xen so people can play the full story. You will have to wait a little bit more. But all I can say is that the game is going well and that even the dev's are excited about the progress :)

Thanks for your response, that is very good news.
I wish the whole OBM team the best of luck and, hopefully, we will all see the game on steam some time later <3
Oh and let me just congratulate and thank TheSixtyEight for possibly THE best rendition of displacer gun in existence :>

You were disappointed that Crowbar collective was kind enough to release the game for free and put a paid version on steam for only 15$? Literally decades of work and 15$ is too much for you?

We don't know yet. All I can say is that you will not need to pay it to play the game. There will be alwayse a free version.
