Operation Black Mesa is a total Source conversion of Half Life: Opposing Force. Half-life: Opposing Force is still an amazing game, although its not nearly as amazing as it was when it was released.

Well the time has finally come for the Operation Black Mesa team to unveil our first official media release and a long overdue one at that. The Operation Black Mesa mod has only been in development for about 5 months now and we have been very busy since our start. Quite a while ago we merged with a French team with the same goal in mind to recreate the hit classic Opposing Force, this merge proved to be a great opportunity and has helped our mod grow exponentially.
So for our first media release we would like to kick it off with some shots of the melee weapons, the "Ka-bar combat knife" modeled by Hurz, and the "Pipe wrench" created by Samuel . Now we would also like to show some of our maps of which we have the chapter “The Package” by seldoon182, and “Friendly Fire” by Gunner. And of course what media release would be complete without some good concept, so we are showing a concept drawing of Otis drawn by our very own ZitaX.
We are also in the midst of developing new forums and continueing development on our website which are constructed for the most part but not yet ready just yet so we will still use our current forums for now. We are also still looking for talented members to join our mod and help us grow and prosper. And of course do not forget to drop by our current forums and support our mod.
Hope you enjoy what we have to offer and stay tuned in and wait for more as this is just the tip of the iceberg for this growing project.

Copy Black Mesa much?
Feel free to send me a PM whenever you guys manage to work out your own design ideas.
I agree with Stickmaster.
Looks very nice, especially the map shots.
Good work
omg, please excuse me but i just died laughing at that character concept. (not the artists ability, but the character itself just looks halerious)
nice map shots
if you work the lightmaps right they could look a tad - insy wincy better, very nice none the less
Otis isn't bald.
Good work anyways, I want to have your babies!...
Except that Im a guy. :S
Wow, it amazes me how much the first screen in no way resembles Lambda Core from Black Mesa Source! /sarcasm
Thestjester: :D
h4mx0r: I choosed to make him bald, so that it would be easy for modelers to add diffirent stiles of beards/haircuts.
Very Good work boys.looks like as BMS.
Damn... Kester I already told you that we only try to make our mod similar compared to Black Mesa... What's wrong ?
Btw the Warehouse has been made by Gunner and Gunner belong the Black Mesa Forums' members ! Someone has already posted the pics of the Lambda Core from the leaked alpha in your Forums... This conversation is close !
Not on my count it isn't. You are plagiarizing our work and after telling us you were going to work on your own ideas I still see so many references to our work. Yes I admit that we are both recreating the same facility, but you influence should come from the originals, not our take on it. I'm also interesting to know where some of Gunners "ideas" come from, because I can see things almost directly taken from my work which can only have been seen in the leaked alpha...
Like I said in the team on our forums, I have nothing against OBM, I do have something against Gunner, he has prolifically taken more than inspiration from other peoples work and tried to pass it as his own.
Concidering this mod in no way get close to the awe inspiring feel of Black Mesa Source, it is however still updating, BMS seems to have dissapeared due to the leak, and unlike Valves leak, we are not kept up-to-date as faithful loyal fans who agree this is a tragic thing to happen, but you must keep us imformed, as for this mod, i wish them luck and you can see where maps need a great eal more attention.
So I guess the resent planethalflife interview with some new media doesn’t count as an update, huh?
oh whats the link to that update please ?
Kester... you have to think about if they didn't do Black Mesa's Style...
You'll get flaming n00b0rz telling the team to make it like BM, you can never win...
Note the use of the work "n00b0rz", people like that don't matter. If you make a good game with your own style people will appreciated it and give a lot more respect.
Kester to be honest it doesn't really look much like any BMS screenshots released in a time which they could copy them... It doesn't really look much like that shot anyways...
You have to rember that you are both trying to copy a game already so thats prety hypocritical, your just still worked up abou the old carpark shots... but they've come a long way, good job guys, you'll be a top mod yet, I wish you the best of luck
The overal look is different yes, the details look very similar though. That is what we are getting at.
As i will say it again, wouldn't people bitch if it wasn't like BMS?! And another thing I'll say again... you can't really win this fight...
and what about if you're mod comes out, and there going to mod a mod from you're content, are you going to complain about that as well?
Yes.
And people wouldn't bitch if it doesn't look like black mesa as long as it looks good. People aren't retards, we realise the two mods are different.
looking good, though whats that potatoe doing there with a face on it?
otis looks like the drummer from Raging Speedhorn
Koroshiya_Ichi: googled it... My gosh O_o
hahaha scary aint it :D
I'd suggest joining up with the black mesa: source team. I think the two teams working together could accomplish a great deal, and if I recall they are always looking for team members. They've got a hell of a roster, too. Think team number is around the 40s now.

Rip-off...
Rip-off of what? Half Life 1 or BMS? => arent they both remaking HL1?
I must be missing something here...
OmeVince: Almost, were remaking the expansion, Opposing Force.
hmmm, good to see some people really know how to articulate their opinions in a well formed, logical and concise manner! Now to deactivate that darn sarcasm chip of mine
So I guess OPM a rip-off of Opposing Force, and BMS is a rip-off of Half-Life 1. Game over, man.
Not really, BM is a remake of HL1, OBM is a rip off of BM, there is a very real difference.
Kester: Perhaps you should give them some advice on how to change their maps so they look less like the ones that you have? If you don't want to, then they probably will never change their things, as they might not know what to change.
You appear to be intent on insisting that they have pictures of or the actual leaked alpha...And they might not. Since I saw you note somewhere that they had something similar to the alpha, you should at least say what that detail is and tell them/him to change that.
OBM:
That yellow/black stripes is really lousy looking, by the way. Normally it's used to signify CAUTION or something. It appears to be EVERYWHERE, including where there's no obvious reason it should be there. If there's lifts/cranes on the ceiling, then the tape is good, but if it's just lights and scaffolding and such, you should remove it.
I think that's one of the other things that Kester was noting was similar in your maps...Personally, I think that if you're going to use it, at least make it logically placed so it makes sense. If you did copy it, you picked a bad thing to copy, as it's used improperly (If their version is the same as yours.)
Oh, and a complaint...What's with all the random boxes? That giant one on the left is too big to even fit in that truck. It's rather dumb. Also, hazardous materials aren't just lying around in barrels inside of garages near human activity. Especially those rusted ones in that nook towards the right of the screen.
Your lighting is also rather odd. The lights aren't spaced evenly (Or it doesn't look like they are) as they normally would be. And in the top-center of the picture, there's 2 completely random hanging lights over that small door/room. There's no ladder up there and as far as I can tell, no reason there needs to be any light up there. I would close that area off and maybe apply some of that caution-tape texture to the sides of the door (The large garage door.)
Another smart idea would be to have some lines on the floor (Yellow/Orange usually) which create a rought sort of road with a bunch of KEEP CLEAR signs strewn along it. Perhaps a sort of cross-walk also, as those would make sense in such a garage area.
I'd like to see all those worked out, which should also make it look less like Kesters, as I've honestly only seen the Train-Intro pictures on the BM profile. (Dial-up. Took forever to view those few pictures.)
Yes, very large comment. Feel free to comment me/respond/whatever. I'll referesh and stuff to check this periodically. PM me if it's after Friday of this week.
BM source ppl commenting in this news post.
You realy arnt doing wonders for the PR of your mod.
Same with the other OBM team.
Looking great, guys!
Funny too, as I just finished playing through Opposing Force (for about the 5th time) today.
This isn't about PR though, this is about our work being used without permission, and to be totally honest I don't believe I have acted out of sorts considering the background of this.
Kester if thats the case, you should have asked VALVe for their designs...
Heh how do you rip off a mod doing a remake of a game, this mod and bms are doing the same crap just working on different parts of halflife. I could care less about either of these remakes but find it funny the bms staff is getting annoyed over nothing. Let me point out the obvious, halflife and opposing force looked identical, so the remakes are bound to look similar as well. BMS has been around longer and has more people interested, so for them to give a crap about this mod kind of amuses me. Worry about your own work and less about others trying to copy you (even though they arent), if anything you make yourself look insecure about your own work.
I see a lot of people here don't really understand where I'm coming from. It's not the overall feel of these areas, it's the smaller details that we believe have been copied, parts that aren't originally in HL and therefore wouldn't look similar unless the same LD worked on them or some other foul play occured.
@Hot - Valve are aware of us and as of yet have not expressed any wishes for us to cease and desist and as such we continue work. We have however asked OBM in the past not to use details and designs we have ourselves come up with and employed in the recreation of Half-Life.
Regardless, here isn't the best place to argue this and as such I shall get in contact with some of the devs at OBM and try to come to some kind of resolution.
So they copy the smaller details? OH NOES ITZ TEH END OF THE WROLD!!!!!
Oh dear, this can't be real. Have you copyrighted your work? Probably no, otherwise you would have sued the poor mapper, isn't it? And what are you going to about them "copying the smaller details"? Or just tell me what you understand by "copying the smaller details", because no matter how long I stare at both BM:S and OBM screens, it just seems like I CAN'T SPOT THE SIMILARITIES. Except that they're both based on HL.
Meh.
Copyright starts at the moment of creation. Its not like you have to fill out a form to have your work protected.
take the moral highground, so even if they did copy you, you did it first.
imitation is the greatest form of flattery?
I don't think they hold a copywrite because valve already holds it since they were the creators of HL in the first place.
I don't see what the problem is either... opfor had all the same details in it that HL had because it was going on at the same time. IMO if its opfor for source it would look much nicer with details as close to BMS as possible that way you have a more immersive feeling.
rather than bicker about little details why not get togeather to achive a more completed feel?
What are you talking about? There is no content copied from Black Mesa: Source. So they look similar, they're both remakes of similar games so therfore they would look similar. If I am supposed to make the Hydro Damn from foxtrot what would someone whos looking at it do first? Compare it to the Damn from BMS, so therefore I'd want it to look similar but of course not the exact same.
Explaining this seems like a lost cause to most people here, you're obviously choosing what to read. You also don't know what you are looking for because you don't have all the source files of BM, therefore not knowing all the details that we believe have been plagiarised.
Also, even though Valve holds IP of the HL story we hold copyright of the work we have done.
Even though the public may want any other HL1 expansion's remake to look like BM it is something we have previously expressed with OBM that we don't want them to. Something to which OBM agreed to. The fact this has come up again is the reason why we are so annoyed.
Lastly, I believe I said in my last post this isn't the place to argue about this any more and as such I am currently discussing the matter with key members of the OBM, including Gunner.
No content was directly copied, so therfore there is no enfringment. So what if gunner tried to make it look like the work of BM, as long as it isn't directly copied there is nothing legaly wrong. Also if you still are talking about something that I don't see maybe it would be helpful to point out the copied "details".
A lot of the details haven't been shown in media releases and therefore I'm not going to break an NDA just to prove a point to someone that doesn't matter.
