Operation: Black Mesa is a total Source remake of Half Life: Opposing Force. Using the Source engine, the developers plan to recreate the Black Mesa research Facility as it was seen by Corporal Adrian Shephard of the H.E.C.U. Half-life: Opposing Force is still an amazing game, although it is not nearly as amazing as it was when it was released.

The Quixel Suite 2.0 is strong in this one. Awesome material definition and brush work! ;D

No Quixel Suite at all, just good old Photoshop :)

Damn that is impressive. Do you mind posting a break down of the model? Oh, and using Quixel Suite isn't an insult haha. I think it actually it actually improves workflows dramatically. Atleast it does for me :D

What you mean by "break down"? I dont take it as insult at all :) I personally believe that quixel stuff is nice and has its own place in industry BUT if you aim for quality nothing can beat photoshop :)

A break down is a view of the lowpoly + bakes + wireframe. No textures added. And then maybe another view of the entire thing with wireframe etc. etc.

I would disagree with you there. I don't know how closely you are following the development of Quixel but in the latest major update (2.0) they have added a new painting and baking system into 3Do. I still believe that a mix of both Quixel (for it's amazing masks) and Photoshop is awesome to improve both workflow and quality. Check out some pictures of pure DDo work.

Photoshop is great but it is always going to be limited by the fact that is 2D. The new 3D painters in Quixel and Substance Painter have erased the issues of seams almost entirely and made texturing faster and better than ever.

Yes faster work can be done by using some 3d painter, however everything what is generated is still just generated and you have less control over it, sometimes I use substance painter for speed but if I aim for quality photoshop is the way to go :)

Generated? 3D painting isn't generated haha. You hand-paint it onto the model. You can take a look at some of those pictures to get an idea of what I mean. It is exactly the same as photoshop just in a 3D landscape instead of 2D :P.

Quixel's product like ndo2x is an extension to photoshop to increase control over the creation of different texture maps. It can rapidly speed up your work without limiting the control of your workflow.

Are the xen areas going to be expanded upon in OBM? The secret xen sections were fun to visit in the original game, but they were very short, empty and many were repeated, and there was the one that just killed the player. It would be nice to have many variations and enemies placed within so the player will have to fight for the rewards that these areas offer.

Now this is how you do a remake. You guys didn't unnecessarily remade the displacer, you remade it just right. Just higher detail, retaining color! Unlike tau cannon for steam version of black mesa... sure, it is of even higher quality (dat higher poly count), but colors are duller, and the model has all those unnecessary changes from the mod version. Same can be said for most weapons in black mesa steam version (I find tau cannon most glaring).

You guys are doing it right, remaking and expanding on it, rather than make unnecessary changes.

What was wrong with the Steam version weapons? The Tau Cannon in particular was amazing, the level of detail made it come alive and it's certainly not "duller".
