Post news Report RSS Kicking off the Oasis 1.1 release countdown

Our second tech demo is arriving just as we didn't announce a couple of weeks ago. Huh? Right. Better to release something without announcing it than the other way round, don't you think?

Summer is coming to an end and the time has come to give you an update of what we were working on over the last weeks. Screenshots are always nice, videos demonstrate that features are really working ingame - but wait - there is even something much, much better to get you up to date...

Oasis 1.1

We went quiet for a while after the last article about our travelling system (except for the release of the Okasankaar artbook of course). Did we lose interest in pushing the limits of the Crysis Wars SDK in order to transform the game into an Action-Adventure? On the contrary! While preparing some news posting about the improved camera system we decided to hold back any further information till the completion of our next milestone: Oasis 1.1
While this meant some shortage of real updates over the last weeks, in the following days you will receive details about newly implemented features on a daily basis - and the best thing: you will be able to try everything out by yourself when the Oasis 1.1 technology demo is released on Saturday, September 18th. Time to lean back and enjoy the show...

What is open Outcast?

In case you didn't hear about this yet: Open Outcast aims to create a freely available inofficial sequel to the Action-Adventure Outcast. We are NOT recreating the original game using a modern engine (no clue where so many people got that idea).
Still you will be able to visit familiar locations and meet old faces from the first part while the story will continue after Cutter Slade (the protagonist) returned to earth from his first trip to Adelpha (a planet in a parallel universe Outcast took place in). Since we also want to reach a decent visual quality, and prefer to work on the gameplay rather than developping our own level editor or exporters, the project is now developed as Total Conversion of Crysis Wars. We can promise you you won't find too much of a first-person-shooter left in Oasis 1.1, though! ;)

But I don't have Crysis or Crysis Wars!

No big deal, simply use the freely available Crysis Wars Trial to run Oasis 1.1 as described here. Oasis 1.1 hasn't been released so why bother about that already, you may ask? Well the demo is about 5.5GB in size and the additional patch is another 0.5GB. You may want to start downloading already so you can give it a try on release day - and if you are still not convinced simply check back in the following days when the features of the tech demo are examined in detail. :)

Are you gonna summarize what happened in the original Outcast (would be good for newcomers)?

I recommened you to check out Outcast on Wikipedia: En.wikipedia.org

More than that won't be necessary. Everything you need to know is pretty much explained in-game :)

We'll definitely have a brief summary in the final version, but it's less important in these tech demos :)

Dont summarize a game; go find it on a used games store and play it for yourself, thats what I going to do in the next months.

Great news guys, the graphics is really impressive too.
