I really have never seen SM armor with spikes, and since you said that Veterans or high ranked marines wear it,then sergeant cant actually wear it,because they aren't as high ranked as veterans or captains.

I don't see why marines can't have spikes, I mean thet wear skulls and the tabletop game is ALL about customization. Spikes or not, it doesn't matter.

Also, I suggest getting reference from the board game, not the DOW games.

if you want to get into the nitty gritty lore of stuff, every space marine above the regular rank and file can customize their armor within the chapter/legion livery standards. If this guy wants spikes then he can put spikes on his armor. Think of them as pointy studs ;P

is the iron halo actually going to have an in game effect, or is it just for decoration?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote

It's decoration. Instead of the Battle Standard, some sergeants have the Iron Halo with the Skull, an Eagle etc... Don't know the lore behind it, I just go from tabletop reference and ingame from the Dawn of War games

yeah, on the table it gives a 4+ invuln save. I'm not sure why it didn't really do anything in DoW though.

The Iron Halo give a power shield in DoW2.

Nice models, even if they won't be really different from the "normal" space marines. (maybe add some stamp of purity for instance).

Guys, there are a lot of different Space Marines armors and helmets. One Marine can get a skull on his helmet and another one can get spikes or stork helmet.

Nice models. I think the banner and iron halo can be a part of equipment. Iron halo as armor (20% less damage, like armour in Alien Swarm) and banner can make all Marines in team a bit stronger.

By the way, how many things are still to do?

The Sergeant already have the buff auras, which makes his team-mates stronger. That's why he wears them already....and so you'll be able to recognize him on the field.

You really are pathetic aren't you? Why should I make MY MOD with the Ultramarines just because YOU want to? And your main argument is that the Ultramarines will have their own movie so then I should make eveything about them? They have enough publicity as it is! It's like saying I should make them Blood Ravens because they are in the next Dawn of War game... Take your childish stupidity elsewhere, fool.

If I would have it my way, I would release this mod to everyone but you. Seriosuly.

I'm sorry, but due to your insistence to be rude and hateful to the members of this community, and not apologizing when asked to, You have been reported to the Moddb staff, I truly wish that they can find a peaceful way to help you, for I fear that things my turn out for the worst for you, if left to the community that you so childishly insulted.

When i first got Alien Swarm it brought back memories of the old Space Crusade game which i played as a kid so i knew it wouldn't be long before someone did this.

Keep it up, it's coming along very well. I was surprised you didn't pick the Ultramarines but the way you decided on who to use is the best way to do it, keep up the work and hurry up and finish :P.

Well, I guess I would have chosen a Death-Watch Squad, 'cauce it allowes more different/spezialised Characters (ya know the Flamer-Salamander, the Wolfscout, the Tyranid-Hunter-Ultramarine etc) or at Least a Codex-near-Chapter.

I love the Salamanders, (#2 on my List) but in my eyes they are just too fixed in a very special form of warfare. :/

are these two separate models that you are attempting to pick from? if so, i like the banner better

or...is the banner a form of wargear? Damage amp for the squad perhaps?

The banner and the iron halo is just a way to see the difference between the 2 sergeants you get to choose from. The battle standard and the iron halo will ,since the sergeant will buff his team-mates, have an effect.

Maybe, the standar make a offense aura ( 10% atk bonus ) And the iron halo a defense aura ( 10% Less dmg taken ), and add it to wich sergeant you choose. It's just an idea, and i never force you to do that anyway.

I thought that spikes were indeed for veterans, indicating their presence in the pre-horus era or something along those lines, before the bulk of the now chaos space marines became traitors. However while this is fine having spikes, its the only thing setting the marine out as a veteran, where as if you look at the veteran models they have loin cloths and a lot of purity seals to indicate their age and experience. Just something for you to think about, great models so far :)

They not much Astartes who survived the Horus Heresy era exept for ultramarines, But salamander was near the end... Because of Isstvan V

their legion is one of the survivors but after Isstvan V they got many casulites on armageddon lots of veteran died on that planet so sending a veteran for purgin infestation hmm not salamendr style..

I have a few suggestions for the sergeant, sorry if I offend your work...

1) Dragon/Drake scales and skins should adorn the Sergeant in places, perhaps dangling from the shoulder pads or backpacks, or even perhaps the skins being used as loincloths for the veterans.

2) As suggested above, the power armor should be of an older type or mark, something along the lines of a Mk. V. You could also combine fragments of different marks of armor, to show further that the Salamanders are master forgers.

3) I believe lorewise there shouldn't be an Iron Halo on the Sergeant's backpack. If I remember correctly (please correct me if I'm wrong) only certain veterans, Captains, and Chapter Masters carry Iron Halos.

Otherwise, I really like what you're doing. Can't wait to see it textured.

- to your first suggestion bertshurmenburg, the scales and skins can be added in the texture, to have them directly on the already detailed models would be harder to do and the higher poly count will slow the game down.

love the models, keep doing what you're doing!

and for all the complainers: this guys his taking HIS time to make this game for everyone, he doesn't HAVE to do any of this. The fact is that he is, and that someone is making a 40K mod at all should give you cause to rejoice. There is a fine line between constructive criticism and complaining. If you don't like it, go learn 3D modeling and the SDK and make your own.
