I downscale textures too, especially in dark areas so I can produce a nice atmosphere. Great to see you're using this technique too! Don't overdo it though. GoldSrc hates tiny (and huge) textures :P .

I'm experimenting with downscaled textures for better lighting in certain rooms, first with dev textures and then the whole world! >:D

I also started using hammer 3.5.3 rather than hlsdk on steam. This decision was made after watching PlanetPhillips (Run.Think.Shoot.Live) stream on mapping basics. Twitch.tv
