OldSkool Amp'd is a smart tool which allows you to play Unreal 1 in UT... as well, a lot of new features.

Models/Skins:
Has all player models from Unreal (except the nali, that's what the bonus pack is for) working. It also lets you use all the skins, plus some Real CTF skins. I also made talktextures, so the face will show up in the consule. It also features my "team-saving" code, which allows the user to tell which skins not to preserve for different team colors.

SinglePlayer:
I am not talking about the UnrealTournament SinglePlayer, with bots. I mean the SP from Unreal where you walk around, blowing up baddies :D. It features a scoreboard (hit F1) to view information on the map and your score (and kill specifics). The mod has a new menubar where you can start a new game menu, a save game, and a load game menu. The new game menu allows you to select a custom map or a map pack. Those making a map pack can make plugins (that go into the map pack menu). The save game amount has been extended to 20 and it is for EACH pack. And yes, there is co-op and configuring controls.

UT Enhancements:
Alas, OldSkool is not just for Unreal in UT. It features the following "enhancements" over the UT menus:

  • Weapons priority window shows ALL weapons. Very nice for mod authors.
  • Allows you to modify the background of the UT desktop.
  • Has a nice music menu system. You can choose what music you want to play, when the level has none, or "force" it to play. This is CLIENT-SIDE.
  • Player setup enhancements.
  • Deathmatch:
Features a mutator that changes the UT weapons and inventory to the Unreal equivilents. Which ones are changed are configured by using a configuration menu. Also, allows the Unreal HUD to be used for Deathmatch, Teamgames, CTF (using the realctf HUD), and assault (a SlIGHTLY modified HUD), and a domination morphed HUD. It also makes use of the talktextures and displayes the messages. Furthermore,it is HIGHLY configurable (can even make custom weapon arenas) and adds two new weapons: the SMP (a machine pistol) and the Quadshot (four-barreled shotgun)

There IS a way to repair the negative mouse accel in Unreal and UT99(used to happen alot to me).2 ways I think,1:Turning off mouse accel in Options>Input menu or changing SwapInterveal=True in Unreal or UnrealTournament.ini file. Seems to only happen on systems with WindowsXP or Vista

Thanks for pointing out the new link... UsAaR33's homepage has changed a lot of times, and I lost track of it a while ago.

Good to see some people are still playing the old unreal :) I love it. The ambientation is amazing...

Amp'd I guess is a short form for "amplified". Not sure, though.

I recently bought a copy of the original Unreal (trully, I found it in 2006!), but I cannot enjoy it because its very bad mouse behaviour (it misses (or miscalculates) mouse updates, resulting in negative acceleration). There is no way to repair it, but using OldSkool Amp'd I can play Unreal with UT99 engine. A real fragging pleasure, with full precision mouse. (Now, I need Oldskool for DukeNuke3D)

Thanks, UsAaR33 (and thanks, Logitech) :)

PD: the homepage link is wrong. I found it here:

(by the way... does someone know what "Amp'd" stands for?)
