NUCLEAR FIRE - 0.5A

Nuclearfiremap.wordpress.com

1. Map concept.

Nuclear Fire is a small action game (third person shooter with standart warcraft camera) with a simple goal: to be a frenetic map. I really like games where a lot of things happens at the same time and forces you to pay all your attention on the game to be faster than the other players. Obviously, this only becomes a real challenge on Player vs Player games, so this map will be one of these.

2. Weapons and heroes.

There will be only one type of hero in the map, but don't worry: all the map is designed to begin with simple things, but as the game advances, all will complicate progressively.

This will happen by some ways:

  • Abilities: when you reach certain level, you'll be able to choose one of two abilities to learn.
  • Stats: every level you'll get a skill point to spend on one of the four stats described below:
    • Vitality: increases max. HP.
    • Speed: increases movement speed.
    • Energy: increases max. energy (mana).
    • Haste: reduces the time to reload your weapon.

The hero has two weapons, that cannot be lost. One is a combat knife, the melee weapon par excellence in shooter videogames, and the other is a fire weapon that will shoot the ammo on your inventory.

"Only one fire weapon?" you may be asking. Yes, one weapon, but with different types of ammo. Different ammo will determine different shots. I'm talking about stunning shots, poisoned bullets... etc. Also, there will be highly destructive missiles.

In addition to ammo, the map will have other stuff to fill your inventory. I'm talking about injections (potions, yes), mines, electronic devices...

3. Battleground and ambientation.

After reading lines above, I suppose you know that it is not a realist map. You're right then, Nuclear Fire doesn't tries to be realist (see the hero model).

This map has futuristic ambientation, so the battlefield will be some type of industrial complex. Of course, it will be full of destructible stuff, like barrels or cages, things that can be used as barricades.

4. Frenzy and random events.

Frenzy system is something I thought to make the game more entertaining. How it works? It is very simple: when a player made a certain number of consecutive kills without dying, he will trigger the system. Then, one good thing and one bad thing will happen to the player. For example, when you reach 8 consecutive kills, you will be forced to share your vision with all players, but also you will receive an Invisibility Device, which can be used to make yourself invisible for a few seconds.

Random events system is another thing I made, although is not so original. Every two or three minutes of game, something will happen. Something good, or something bad, all depends of your situation when the event starts. A good example of it is the event "OMG where's my barricade?". Instantly, all destructibles in the map disappear. If you are hiding from enemy fire behind a barricade, this event will be bad for you, but if you're the guy that is shooting another one that is protected by the barricades, this event will be good.

5. Beta release.

Beta stage has begun for Nuclear Fire, so please download and test it. This is an early beta and probably there are a lot of errors in the map, so I ask you to report all bugs you find on this post or in the official Nuclear Fire site, linked above.

News

I have to be grateful to the administrator of Slash Gaming Network, AbsoluteMSTR, because one of his bots with dedicated server, which means that will be active all time, is hosting Nuclear Fire. You shouldn’t have problems to find NF games in battle.net servers with the name format [Game] Nuclear Fire #X.

Again, thanks!

Hy. I'm just wondering one thing. How did you managed to add those really cool shaders and light effects into warcraft 3. This is something that reminds me of starcraft 2 tbh. Good luck with the mod and pls let me know your secret.

Hmm... there's no special light effects in this map, only fog and shadows.
