Normandy 1944: European Theatre

Normandy '44: European Theater combines a higher level of realism with a more elaborate doctrine system, which incorporates almost 50 different military units that took part in the campaigns of Jun-Sept. 1944. This spectrum ranges from battalions of free Polish and French units serving under the main allied armies to volunteers from the Eastern Front that served in the German Wehrmacht. This is only a small portion of the doctrine variety however, as this mod feature numerous well known units of all factions as well. The mod also features numerous new abilities and custom made units each with a completely revamped size and structure. Between custom made units and structures with historically correct skins, Normandy '44 offers over 150 NEW UNITS, making for an almost endless variety of different scenarios and unit actions. Combined these factors provide for an experience unlike any other mod for COH that has earned us a spot in the Top 100 Mods THE LAST THREE YEARS RUNNING.
I hope you'll join us.

To Steve Mullins, whose passing was truly tragic and untimely. I'll miss you, my friend.

And to Alfred, my faithful Cat who sat and continues to sit by me whilst I pour hours and hours into this modification. His love and playful personality are what keep me going no matter how hard both modding and life can be sometimes. Thanks, Alfie.

Regardless of my own personal dedication, this mod continues it's dedication to our former team member and hallowed friend, Christian Werner von Schlippenbach, who contributed so much.

You can play Normandy 1944: European Theater with ANY VERSION OR COMBINATION OF VERSIONS OF Company of Heroes. Whether it be either of the stand alone versions, COH: Opposing Fronts, COH: Tales of Valor or the base, "Gold" or "Game of the Year" editions.
Any form will work just fine with our modification.

Simply download either the MANUAL OR AUTO-INSTALLER version of v1.7 or the necessary installaion files for the v2.0 ALPHA from our DOWNLOADS section , install and then follow the icon creation instructions in the READ ME or in our Field Manual, available HERE.
Do not download any of the versions labeled "OUT DATED".

Playing with a Steam version of COH is also not an issue either. Simply install the mod to your proper folder under this path "Steam > SteamApps > common > (YOUR COH FOLDER)" and follow the icon creation instructions in the READ ME or in our Field Manual, downloadable HERE.

Hello everyone, I hope we've all enjoyed our holidays!

First off I would like to note that the new damage system has been implemented for all infantry weapons, and after some initial hilarity during internal testing we've seem to have found what we're looking for out of a "Realistic" CoH2.

As we currently do not have a full implementation of vehicle based stats, we decided internally (Well, when I say "we" I mean I simply went ahead and did it as a placeholder choice whilst I wait for my Armour tech to finish his calculations) to increase all anti-tank/vehicle main guns by 25% of their original value.

This means that counters are essentially the same, but vehicle based combat is faster paced than it was before. We didn't want it to become to unfair/visceral because vehicles then become less and less useful. So this is our current setup and hopefully it should work as intended.

Squad sizes have been increased for the most part, with very few (If any) exceptions. Costs are currently being redone internally and upkeep is next on the list as there are currently major issues with keeping the general pacing of gameplay going with larger squad sizes. This was an expected but annoying outcome from increasing squad sizes, and it is by far the only real issue I have at the moment that stands between internal and an official Alpha release to the community.

Having said all of this, if you haven't noticed we have moved to a different Moddb page:

This will be the last update on this Moddb page in regards to the CoH2 successor of this modification, those who are interested in following the successor mod should subscribe to the new page in order to receive timely updates in the future.

Finally, I would like to thank everyone for staying with me thus far. I'm aware of the massive bumps in the road that this mod has hit before I took over and most importantly when I took this modification over from Ken. There were tons of internal issues such as bugs, crashes, and overall inability to continually update the modification in a timely manner due to it's lack of organization and size.

There is then the issue of the port to Company of Heroes 2, which included an absurdly long period of "Down Time" in which the team was more or less stagnant. But through all of that I still seem to have a rather decently sized following, and to be honest whether it is ten people or ten thousand it means a lot to me.

So in conclusion, I ask that people be patient, and you'll get the CoH2 Alpha of The Last Crusade: 44-45 soon!

Thanks again,

scarts Dec 31 2014 replied: really couldn't be any simpler... Try installing the SVN of Realism invictus for CIV 4 and packing the art assets to shorten the 5 minute load times. Now that was more than do able, but to not be able to figure out how to install something so simple as this mod is mind blowing...

Just an FYI I am not even close to a computer expert, I just follow instructions to the tee

True I guess, an installer still could be easier, it's up to the developers of the mod though I guess

The AI will be as good as the regular CoH2 AI. They'll build the same units and use them in the same way as before, abilities and so such included as I haven't removed any of them.

I have 2.700 version of COH and mod works perfectly except the ai. So my question is is the mod compatibly wiht 2.700 or only with 2.602?
Or did I do something wrong when installing it. Im not new to the mods i have 5-6 CoH installed at the moment but each has its own Coh copy so dont say that its not a clean installation of the game

The newest variant of CoH1 is the one it is meant to work on. Otherwise I cannot give you a genuine answer but I can say that it probably won't work.

I have to agree. Any prospective users of this mod be aware of this.

The core issue for me is that the lethality of units has gotten out of control. I have played this mod since its beginning, and sure that was a key feature ever since then, but now you have infantry with basically zero survivability and artillery spam for days. The result is that there is no tactical, or even strategic room for manoeuvre. I did not enjoy having to micromanage every individual squad. Because that is now what you have to do; before you can even react, your squad will be annihilated.

I understand that a lot of time has gone into this mod, and CoH was not exactly conducive to modding in the first place. I am appreciative that someone took the reins and saved the unfinished and buggy alphas from oblivion. But creatively I think there were too many missteps and despite the hard work, I'm afraid the mod has somewhat regressed.

For what it's worth, I had a lot of fun with version 1.6 of this mod. Gameplay wise, it was perfect. I hoped the new release would have followed the spirit of this version and simply added units and fixed bugs, but I suppose I can just continue to play the old release.

I know this is long and mostly critical but I hope the mod leader understands that I took this time because I really care. If I had the time and knowledge I'd certainly like to help mod, but for now all I can do is offer an opinion. Finally, one little thing: for any newcomers to the mod, try out version 1.7 if you didn't like this release.

As far as I am concerned the variant for CoH1 was a platform from which I was internally testing damage systems. I never said it was complete, I never said it was going to work.

People wanted what I was working on, so I gave it to them. All in all the harsh reality was that there was little to no organization whatsoever on the original product, and any attempt to fix this product resulted in more issues, crashes, slowdowns and bugs.

I have moved to Company of Heroes 2, and I am closing in on completing the first version for it. I'm just getting my ducks in a row, and I can tell you that the damage is no where near as plagued with the lethality issues that are in the modification on the CoH1 variant.

I value your opinion but overall I don't concur that the mod has regressed and I only say this because after six months of work I began to realize that the modification was doomed regardless of any work I could put into it.

Fixing it in any capacity beyond simply bugfixing would require scrapping the entire modification and starting over. Instead, I opted for a platform to allow for continued support from the community while testing various features to see how they worked.

Regardless, feel free to comment and download the CoH2 variant when it releases. That will give you a far more accurate depiction of the damage model we are going for, which is most certainly not present in the CoH1 version as it was meant more for testing than for actual gameplay.

CoH2 is partially on the Humble Bundle this week - you can get the Oberkommando West and the US and OKW as opponents for 3.72USD (along with some other games, including Empire Total War). Next Tuesday additional games will be unlocked - there's a chance for more CoH content... Also I believe it's for sale on Steam as well (though not sure if the time ran out).
