Normandy 1944: European Theatre

Normandy '44: European Theater combines a higher level of realism with a more elaborate doctrine system, which incorporates almost 50 different military units that took part in the campaigns of Jun-Sept. 1944. This spectrum ranges from battalions of free Polish and French units serving under the main allied armies to volunteers from the Eastern Front that served in the German Wehrmacht. This is only a small portion of the doctrine variety however, as this mod feature numerous well known units of all factions as well. The mod also features numerous new abilities and custom made units each with a completely revamped size and structure. Between custom made units and structures with historically correct skins, Normandy '44 offers over 150 NEW UNITS, making for an almost endless variety of different scenarios and unit actions. Combined these factors provide for an experience unlike any other mod for COH that has earned us a spot in the Top 100 Mods THE LAST THREE YEARS RUNNING.
I hope you'll join us.

To Kaylin Michelle Dean; Whom I have found to help me in ways I cannot begin to fathom. I'll never be able to repay you for what you've done, but I would like to think this would be a small symbol of my feelings on the matter.

Thank you.

And to Alfred, my faithful Cat who sat and continues to sit by me whilst I pour hours and hours into this modification. His love and playful personality are what keep me going no matter how hard both modding and life can be sometimes. Thanks, Alfie.

Regardless of my own personal dedication, this mod continues it's dedication to our former team member and hallowed friend, Christian Werner von Schlippenbach, who contributed so much.

You can play Normandy 1944: European Theater with ANY VERSION OR COMBINATION OF VERSIONS OF Company of Heroes. Whether it be either of the stand alone versions, COH: Opposing Fronts, COH: Tales of Valor or the base, "Gold" or "Game of the Year" editions.
Any form will work just fine with our modification.

Simply download either the MANUAL OR AUTO-INSTALLER version of v1.7 or the necessary installaion files for the v2.0 ALPHA from our DOWNLOADS section  , install and then follow the icon creation instructions in the READ ME or in our Field Manual, available HERE.

So, it seems I'm at a bit of a roadblock.

The N44 Team has lost Zupadupadude as it's main skinner, as he has lost motivation to modify CoH1. We will surely miss his ability to whip up new artwork and lovely skins for all those pretty models.

This means that we are essentially without a skinner, and thus no new skins, or unit icons, or unit portraits, all of that is out the window.

At this point most are migrating over to CoH2 for modding, Although they have not officially given the proper permissions and tools to allow for modding to begin in a meaningful way.

Since it seems like almost every other individual is uninterested in this project, I will realign my goals for a more logical, and achievable objective. I can code, and I will do just that. My goal will be to reorganize and rebuild the modification, as it was before.

Having said this, I will most likely limit myself to bugfixing and tweaking that particular release candidate after it's release, as there is simply not enough shared interest by the rest of the "Team" if it's even that at this point to continue with bigger and better ideas.

I have no intention of simply letting the mod die in it's very ugly, and unfinished state. Regular work on this modification will continue, by myself, until modding tools for Company of Heroes 2 have been released (In such a way that I can utilize them, such as Corsix Mod Studio for CoH1).

After that point, I will most likely stick to strictly bugfixing on the CoH1 iteration. I will move most of my focus towards Company of Heroes 2 modding, and I will attempt to offer a more realistic and historical experience there.

A major part of the reasoning behind moving to CoH2 is not just because it looks shinier, or it does this, or that. I'm personally indifferent to all of it. But it seems the only way I can continually get support for skins, models, and a large variety of content that I simply cannot get for CoH1 is to simply migrate to where the "Action" is, per say.

If I reach the point of a stable RC, I will most likely roam around the CoHverse looking for some other saps mod to leech onto. Anywho, thanks for all the support and I'll get something out at somepoint for all of you.

Hey guys,

this mod is one of the best for company of heroes, but I am having trouble with it -.-
I tried every setting in the menu but no change at all.
Always when I start a game there are grafic errors which sooner or later cause the game to crash.

Do you know this problem in any way?

My graficcard should be strong enough for the game. It is a sapphire R9 280X dual-x OC

The grafic issues are something like 3D objects without a texture spreading all over the map.

I do not suffer from this problem with any other mod.
Maybe you have got an idea what I can do

Thank you for the great mod :) although i cannot play it :(

hey JudgeAlfred,

sorry to here 'bout last development issues, this mod has come a very long way, it has it's own outstanding history, makes me really sad to see it slowly dying :-(...let me say and i think it's not just me, COH with it's mods his by far superior to it's successor COH2 in many ways and i hope that this mod doesn't die...

the only mod with such an amount of work in detail, describing the different armies and their composition, real divisions, real names, the skins and sounds...

the only complaint for me now is this fastpaced gameplay, i think it is to fast, no time for reinforce infantry because they are down within seconds, to many callins with to many units, small maps are just meatground for hundreds of units, getting lost in seconds...while this is more realistic with real world stats, it destroys the tactical gameplay within the mod itself...just my humble opinion here...hope ya understand the "krautish" text i wrote...have a nice weekend pal!

hey Judge, I have just one question. Will there be another release, or is this the end?

JudgeAlfred Jul 9 2014, 10:07pm replied:

I'm more or less on the fence about it, honestly.

I've no skinner, and everyone is for all intensive purposes intending to just move over. I can't exactly rebuild everything without massive amounts of work; and I'm on the fence as to whether or not I should just rebuild all of it on the next medium or not.

I mean, I think I speak for some when I say I'm not ready to move over yet. And while CoH2 is probably an improvement in a lot of areas, is the amount of work required to move everything over to it worth the trouble? Or would it be easier to touch up this one? In essence, shrink it.

When it comes to skins, you've got a lot of good ones in this mod at the moment. Could they be used in places where new skins weren't completed? Kind of a stop gap so to speak?

JudgeAlfred Jul 10 2014, 7:18am replied:

Well, that's more or less my predicament.

The amount of work required to move things over would probably be less, simply because I'd be starting from scratch and I'd be able to manipulate how I build things in the first place.

The skins I have aren't ideal, mainly because not only are they not quality but more importantly they don't run well and that's my main issue with it.

So Judge, what can we do to help move this project to CoH2, if that is the direction you see the modding community is inevitably inching towards?

JudgeAlfred Jul 6 2014, 8:33pm replied:

Depends on how you'd like to manipulate the damage system.

All the files that do that are essentially the weapon files; so if you modded them you could make it harder for yourself if you are on the opposite side.

As for the Camera, You can take the camera file within the modification and have it replaced by a camera file from another mod, that has better zoom.
