The game action is mainly set in the city of Ainsbrough. The city itself has various areas, such as a prospering downtown area with sharp businesses, a poor ghetto, countryside, a large forest and other areas... The player will be able to visit most of them just by following the main storyline. 1922 - the roaring twenties, prohibition, corruption, live fast and die young era. With the strong grip of poverty approaching, everyone was eager to make money and live a good life.
The player will have a main storyline to go trough. Beside that, side missions will be available. It is the players choice to take or refuse them. Side missions will get you a chance to visit other locations, unlock weapon upgrades and earn money, with which you can buy various gear needed for your work. Side missions will make further playing easier at some parts, if you do them. You have the free choice of completing your mission. You have an objective and it is your choice how will you get to it. Making right or wrong choices will differ in the mission itself, but not in the final outcome of the game.
The mod will have a lot of features. Some are listed above, but others will stay secret and be left for the player to find out.

"allow for parody and the like."
I'm not a lawyer but there was this fangame based on the King's Quest franchise which had to deal with this stuff, and they went quite in-depth.
Apparently, parody is okay. You don't need any rights to parody. But since we don't have the rights to the characters, creatures etc. of the Mythos we can't use them. I'm not sure what effect charging people for the game would have on our rights - and to be honest, my own view is that, since Lovecraft died 70+ years ago, his work is in the public domain. But because Chaosium copyrighted the RPG and all that, I guess they trump us.
In any case, the whole thing's a bit convoluted, and I think we are considering charging people for this. Don't quote me on that though. So it's really best if we stick to original stuff.
Well, you can't really copyright public domain- it's a rather gray area on their part.
You guy do know that unless you are planning on selling this mod to people, you don't actually need Chaosium's permission to use the Call of Cthulhu, right? Fair Use Laws allow for parody and the like.
I don't plan on selling this mod, but if it fails to be designed as a mod, I intend to design a full-blown game and market it as so in the future.
Fantastic! Good to hear you're still in on the project. Take your time with your higher-priority preoccupations however.
Hey guys - sorry I haven't been contributing much (ie. at all) lately, I was tied up with other stuff. I'm still a little tied up (exams in June, aagh!) but I hope to be able to make some models for this before I get buried in other stuff again.
Pity about losing the Mythos elements, but Noir games have their own style so I'm certainly willing to keep going with this.
well good luck ill track this mod for now looks worth w8ting for ty for the reply
Ok, cool. We're hoping to have at least a small quick demo out soon.
I myself am kind of glad the game's story is transforming from Cthulhu Mythos to a noir detective story. You have no idea how long it took me just to brainstorm mythos ideas for the story.
Yeah same here. I'm using mainly the ideas of Cakeman and myself at the moment. I need to just get into my home computer without any more frucking distractions (I've had court cases, stepdad moved out, me moving in, then being kicked out because of stepdad, court to get an order against him, then being relocated to another state).
It's been damned hectic.
