Patch 1.07.9 Now Available on Steam

1.07.9 is finally out. It introduces a new weapon, a new survival map, a new objective map, and a few dozen fixes. Also, you can now quickly find servers you can start playing right away in. Click "Add common tags..." on the bottom right of the server browser and select "Spawning:Active" to only list servers where there are at least 25 seconds left for spawning.

Future Plans

We haven't talked much about the future plans of NMRiH, so let's do that real quick, shall we? Our top priority right now is useability. We realize that people are frustrated with too much downtime during death and waiting for new rounds to begin. In 1.07.9 we introduced the very first step (a small one albeit) in making the game easier to play, thus more fun. The common tags mentioned above. This is just a small thing and we have bigger changes planned, primarily to Objective mode. We have listened to the feedback over this, but if you'd like to further discuss it head over to our Forum or just post your concerns and suggestions in the comments below!

As for second priorities, new content is always being created. We have a couple new features that are close to done, but we don't want to make any promises or tease anything until we have them actually in the game and ready.

As always, thanks for playing!

Extra Extra Note: Steam will automatically install this update, FYI.

I asked that before, but I guess my post was missed, so again:

Is it planned to implement a kind of movement interactivity (I don't know how I should name it) for the zombies like in L4D?
I mean for example, that hitting their arms make them swing their shoulders backwards or constant firing push them backwards against the wall, while shooting into the legs make them fall or something like that?

And two other questions:

Will the zombies get any interesting idle animations (in L4D they have a hang-over for example) and will there be zombies lying around and raise, if the player is close enough (HL2)?

And will a few zombies holding items/melee weapons as a shovel or something like that like in the Resident Evil movie or They Hunger (just holding, not using but losing after they have been killed)?

Thanks for answering!

Thanks for the questions!

For the first bit about them reacting individually to impacts, that is almost impossible to do on Source. I say "almost" because normally you'd get the physics engine to do that (Source's physics cannot), but for Source you'd need to have these canned animations that are pre-made for all these things... That's a lot of animations.

As for the zombie animations, they are still WIP, but we have plans to have crawling zombies, sprinting ones, ones that rise from the ground and stand up, and just interesting animations in general.

We do plan on having some zombies drop some gear be it weapons or ammo every once in a while ;)

How is it handled in L4D then?

I just would like to see, that the zombies have a more visible hit reactions. For example in this old trailer:
Youtube.com @ 0:45 where a female zombie is repeled.

That is the sort of thing that we are already planning on having, the animations are not yet done. For an NPC to move through world space in a game, they actually have to MOVE in their animation, which means we need to have a stumbling animation.

We currently don't have them, but we are planning on it.

"and will there be zombies lying around and raise, if the player is close enough (HL2)?" By that I meant: Playing dead.

And I almost forgot one question: Will melee weapons take damage (break and crack) from using, so that they become inefficient/useless and you have to throw it away?

Currently they do not, but we're still considering the idea.

Thanks for bringing that up. Currently we do not have motion blur enabled, but if we do, we will include an option to enable/disable it :)

I first heard about this mod on a very recent PC Gamer (US) podcast and as a zombie entertainment enthusiast couldn't pass it up looking in to it. I have been through the available maps, on the few servers that pop up in the server list, and this is a fantastic zombie mod because it will make you concerned by zombies again and not just because the ammo is sparse. The zombies are tough to put down with anything less than hit to their dome. Its often better to try to run past the zombies than engage…

This is not nearly what I expected. Kinda disappointed so far.
