Nice! I like the idea of trying to evade the army at all costs, whilst trying to survive against the horde.

themesmith Dec 21 2012, 12:11am says:

They'll be friendly NPCs right? I hope someone might make a Nat Guard playermodel based on this. Also, I like that you also went with them sometimes having dust masks. If I didn't have a gas mask I totally would get one of those. Even if it is probably mostly useless

+9 votes     reply to comment
Arkanium Dec 21 2012, 7:43am replied:

Hehe. Dustmasks are much cooler than they should be for what they actually do. Whenever I wear one I always feel like I'm Sub-Zero or Scorpion from Mortal Kombat.

DemolitionSteve Dec 23 2012, 7:05pm says:

For the next wave of people who are about to comment "Can we have these guys as player models?!?!":

No, they're [very very very likely] not going to make these guys player models and there's no convincing the team otherwise.

You can't throw in one "cool character" into a game because then nobody will play as the other characters; the other characters that the team has put a lot of time, effort, blood, sweat, and tears into making so that people would actually play as them.

Think about it.

Arkanium Dec 25 2012, 6:21am replied:

It's not even that; it just wouldn't fit the whole atmosphere of the game, or the interactions with the National Guard NPCs.

Sometimes a decision to NOT put something into a game is as important as a decision to add something.

freak19930 Apr 5 2013, 4:19pm replied:

They could make it so they are deserters and the only way to get them would to be a hard objective map where you escape a base while it is being attacked thus adding a backstory for the model, even enhancing the mood with the fact that the army is having trouble and would explain the interactions with national guard npcs

The_Blazer Jan 5 2013, 3:15pm says:

I hope that National Guard NPCs will be friendly or enemy according to the situation.

It would be cool if in some maps they would tell you to stay back and stay still, and become enemies if you don't comply.

Or, they allow the survivors to get on the rescue helicopter, but they perform a test to determine if any of the survivors is infected. Now suppose that you have been bitten and you are about to join the undead, they are performing the test on you, you are about to get caught, you know you will get killed, what do you do? Shoot the Guard and put your friends in danger? Or will you give up hope and just let them end your life?

I feel the guard has the potential to create some really tense moments.

is this national gaurd npc in the game yet, im downloading right now and i was also wondering is it multi only

The_Blazer Jan 13 2013, 5:04am replied:

The mod is mulitplayer only, with co-op gameplay up to 8 players per server. The national guard isn't in the game yet, but if I took a wild guess I'd say they will be added in version 1.7 (current is 1.6) since they said it will be "the biggest update yet".

I think National Guard soldiers should be enemies. Like a 3rd faction in the game. That would certainly spice up some new scenarios.

Nice bakes! I love it when people show proper bakes and not only highpoly models.

I'm waiting for the National Guard. I guess it would be cool if there are "if - then" scenarios, where the NG either turns to help you or against you, depending on how you played until then.

psilocybehunter Feb 15 2013, 5:35pm says:

lol bakes? Curious choice of words.....but nonetheless half life has always and will always be an impressive title and mods are a welcome addition. With half-life 3 on the way as well it helps to get a bit of hype in line!

In the game on some maps, there should be areas with pretty good guns in it, but it's surrounded in a mist thing that infects you if you don't pick up a gas mask from one of the guys.

Schlitzy Nov 11 2013, 10:29pm says:

They should add new mission types (nmo = objective, nms = survival) So you are national guard rescuing your teammates that aren't guard. Or national guard rescuing bots. Lol, OR like what The_Blazer said they do all that stuff. I have high expectations for the national gaurd. BUT I KNOW SOME WILL BE ENEMIES AS STEAM ACHIEVEMENT SAYS:
Kill any enemy (Zombie or National Guard) from 125+ feet with the bow

In addition to the improvements on the player models, our team has been revamping the look and feel of our National Guard NPCs (inquisitive fans managed to figure out how to spawn an old prototype version of them in our past public releases), which will be included in one of our future patches.
