It was made by Czechoslovakia and is the current service rifle for Czech Republic (being replaced though) and for Slovakia.
It feels good to see some weapon used by the army of your country in a zombie game. Really :3

99.9% of all "new" designs are derivatives of previous designs.
Other then outward appearance the Vz58 is not based off the AK in anyway
Aside from having a completely different interior and mechanism, the gross of them being semi-automatic and the only reason they look alike being the fact that Czech got sucked into the eastern bloc back in the day, it also handles exactly the same, but is adjusted in such a way that it's pretty hard if not impossible to convert to a fully-automatic, hence why it's legal in some countries.
Thankfully, we have no need for weapons here as we can reason with people, if not bash their skulls in with a 2x4 and still get a lot farther than countries with guns.
But wasn't the older vz58 fully automatic? I seem to remember a television show(not the best source I know) with full-auto vz58-ish weapons.
I believe this is the civilian version of the rifle. I know the one the Czech Republic military use is full auto and semi auto.
So then is the rifle going to be military issue w/ full auto? Or are we getting a civilian version that's semi? And will it use the same rounds as the SKS? If so, we may need larger boxes for 7.62x39.

NO!!!!! Soldiers are NPCs and having a player character NPC wearing gear and a gasmask would be incredibly misleading.
No. For probably the thirteenth-hundred time I'm going to say they're not going to make military personnel as playermodels. If you throw in one cool-looking character, then everybody and their mother is going to pick that guy, and what fun would it be to joining a server where 6/8 people are the same character?
Also, soldiers would just be so out of place to play as. Take a second to *actually* picture in your mind a military soldier using a lead pipe, a shovel, a revolver, or a double-barreled shotgun. That just doesn't look right.
TL;DR
No, the soldiers are NPCs, deal with it and stop whining like all the 13 year old CoD **** on the internet and learn to enjoy the selection of already badass looking characters are in the game already that the team put a lot of time and effort into making look cool. Not every single zombie game needs super xXMLGxPR0xL3GITxPWN4G3xXx gas mask-wearing soldiers.
If people would want it that badly, I'd make it a donator item (actually a kit) with the model, and spawning with that model a combat knife, an M4 or any military weapon with 1-2 mags

You cant really blame people for thinking that this is an AK. True, the picture's tital says its real name but at a first glance it really does look like an AK.
If you don't know guns, then yes maybe.
Most people here just try to hard to be smartasses and double check everything on wikipedia to make a smart comment on a forum (i know, its very sad but its the way it is) and they are VERY hard on people who say something incorrect..
Will it have the maple leaf carved into the wood like the 858-2? I know Maxx probably chose the 858 on purpose because it's a Canadian market version so why not go all the way?

I considered it, honestly I did! I modeled this one after my friend's personal CZ858 but I opted to leave the maple engraving off since the majority of our maps are US bound.... Though, now that I think about it.. **** the USA and maybe I should sneak it on there ;)

It's not an AK (may be be based off it), but it looks like it. Honestly, if you love paying attention to detail, it's a good choice. An AK47 has a firing rate of incredibly ******* high (almost never seen in games) and a force that allows it to knock down a brick wall in 1-2 magazines ( 3-6 seconds. That would make it pretty much overpowered in... well most games. Now I don't know about this gun, but I suppose it differs in those points AND reliability (bad experiences with Romanian AKs).
The vz58 is famous for being more reliable than the AK47
This weapon is VZ.58 is it Czechoslovakia combat rifle ... This weapon still using slovak army. This weapon fire same ammo like AK 47 (7,62x39mm)it is good weapon
