Initial Story
In 2049, unsavory conditions are rampant throughout the world. As soon as it becomes clear that a terrorist attack in Shenzhen, China, was carried out by perpetrators with ties to international groups and that Hong Kong may be their next target - the United Nations Anti-Terrorist Coalition (UNATCO) dispatches their first nano-augmented agent, Mad Ingram, into the city to prevent the situation from escalating any further.

Deus Ex: Nihilum (DXN, DEN or Nihilum for short) is a First Person Shooter mod taking place in an alternate Deus Ex continuity. It features new made-from-scratch original content, while also extensively featuring material from the UNATCO Born mod (used with permission from fender2k1, UB's project leader) and Deus Ex: Revision (used in accordance with the mod's license).

* Over 13,000 downloads in its first year!
* Completely new score with 80+ tracks (over 2 hours of music
)
* 2,200+ lines (more than 3.5 hours of audio)
* 7-13 hours of gameplay (estimate based on testers' playthrough times)
* Three new weapons: the Walther P99 pistol, Light Machine Gun 2049, Gauss Gun (EMP)
- Exploration is everything! Treat the levels as mazes and prepare for back-tracking! While it can be baffling that people are leaving valuable items and other belongings out in the open, agent Ingram doesn't seem to mind!
- Save often and use several savegame slots! This will hopefully save you a lot of time when it comes to handling certain odd issues.
- Encrypted datacubes: Remember, once you've hacked an encrypted datacube, you have to click on it again to make the datacube information window disappear.
- General rule on hacking: Keep in mind that you do not need this skill to advance the main plot itself. However, its general usefulness cannot be underestimated!
* One of the Top 100 mods in 2013 Mod of the Year Awards!

"Aside from the weak voice acting, Nihilum would even qualify as a commercial add-on for the original Deus Ex." - Lassi Lapintie, Pelit 8/2013

Big thanks to everyone who featured the mod!

Additional thanks to everyone who voted DXN into MOTY 2013 Top 100!

Deus Ex: Nihilum was also reviewed by the most prominent Finnish gaming magazine, Pelit, in their August 2013 issue (thus also fulfilling one of my earliest goals when it came to editing games). Suuret kiitokset!

Naturally, it's obvious that you can't please everyone and DXN certainly did receive plenty of feedback from all parts of the spectrum (you can read some of my follow-up thoughts from the anniversary retrospective). However, after going through all the trouble to finish the mod, I was very glad to find out that my efforts were appreciated by fellow DX editors like Trasher64 and {zXc}Henry from Deus Ex: Revision and SilverSpook from Terminus Machina. All in all, I'm very satisfied with the reception the mod got.

And remember, if you have any questions related to DXN's performance (or something else), CHECK THE FAQ FIRST! And if that doesn't help, the quickest way to reach me is by e-mail. I'll try to reply back as soon as I can/if I can!

In addition to having its own TVTropes entry, I'm glad that there are multiple playthrough videos of the mod on YouTube - some raising valid thoughts! If you want to see a 100% complete playthrough of DXN, here are at least two playthroughs worth checking out!

Deus Ex: Nihilum - Queens, New York City

To sum things up/TL;DR: With critical acclaim from most of the players, fellow notable DX editors, ModDB and the gaming press, Deus Ex: Nihilum was a definite success! I really can't thank you enough! :]

And last, but definitely not least, I sincerely hope that Deus Ex will receive plenty of great mods in the future. :] In the mean time, check these mods out!

Cheers!

Just wanted to say great job on the endings. The ending of any piece of work is one of the hardest things to get right, and I love the way you've connected them quite cohesively to the main game.

Right, how in the blistering barnicles do I access the upper level of the Experimental Chamber in Lower Woodfibre Fortress? I can see a door high up in the aqua chamber, but no way to get to it.

The mod's great by the way, and gets better the further you get.

One of the optional sidequests I've intentionally made hard (as opposed to unintentionally as with... some other things /_\) if you don't have the jumping/speed aug (which admittedly I rarely have either):

There are two TNT crates nearby, one in the area where you originally entered the chamber area. For the other one, you have to go to the control room first to open the door that leads to the transport which will take you to ground level. The crate is in that area and you just have to mess around with crates to make correctly timed and placed jumps on top of those light fixtures on the wall (below the door)... which (for me at least) requires a lot of quicksaving.

I HAVE the jumping/speed aug and still find it hard! Good to know I'm on the right track though. Cheers.

very good work, i really enjoyed this Mod, good text, good maps, only Kowloon was a pain at the beginning, i played atleast 25 hours, explored as much as i could :) credits was more or less worthless, next time more dealers !, found only hmm 2 or 3 (usefull ones) and had over 12 k credits at the end ;) thanks

Many thanks! Even though there won't be a "next time" :]

As for the egregious amount of credits, it's definitely a clear sign that you've played the mod very well if you've managed to get that much money... however: [SPOILERS]the big bucks are really meant for the full Alistair Carlsburn sidequest in Queens that's gonna cost you 5000 credits (not to mention 1500 credits for the extra nanokey) and the rest can used with Agent Larry Fay before infiltrating the White House.[/SPOILERS]

yes true, i thought before i pay him 5 k, i kill them alone or sneak pass them :P, there was also a bug/exploit at same map, with this drug dealer, which is buying Zyme for 100 each, after 20, he still pay 100, but dont take any, he cant hold more than 20 :) after i realized that, i did reload a previous save, but still got that much money

Yup, that bug is actually documented in the readme. After all, even if you utilize it to get near-infinite money, it's not really gonna help you later on in the mod ;]
