Mod Of The Year 2013 Editors Choice - Best Singleplayer Mod

Please install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 runtimes before installing the mod itself!

Initial Story
In 2049, unsavory conditions are rampant throughout the world. As soon as it becomes clear that a terrorist attack in Shenzhen, China, was carried out by perpetrators with ties to international groups and that Hong Kong may be their next target - the United Nations Anti-Terrorist Coalition (UNATCO) dispatches their first nano-augmented agent, Mad Ingram, into the city to prevent the situation from escalating any further.

Deus Ex: Nihilum (DXN, DEN or Nihilum for short) is a First Person Shooter mod taking place in an alternate Deus Ex continuity. It features new made-from-scratch original content, while also extensively featuring material from the UNATCO Born mod (used with permission from fender2k1, UB's project leader) and Deus Ex: Revision (used in accordance with the mod's license).

* Completely new score with 80+ tracks (over 2 hours of music)
* 2,200+ lines (more than 3.5 hours of audio)
* 7-13 hours of gameplay (estimate based on testers' playthrough times)
* Three new weapons: the Walther P99 pistol, Light Machine Gun 2049, Gauss Gun (EMP)
- Exploration is everything! Treat the levels as mazes and prepare for back-tracking! While it can be baffling that people are leaving valuable items and other belongings out in the open, agent Ingram doesn't seem to mind!
- Save often and use several savegame slots! This will hopefully save you a lot of time when it comes to handling certain odd issues.
- Encrypted datacubes: Remember, once you've hacked an encrypted datacube, you have to click on it again to make the datacube information window disappear.
- General rule on hacking: Keep in mind that you do not need this skill to advance the main plot itself. However, its general usefulness cannot be underestimated!
* One of the Top 100 mods in 2013 Mod of the Year Awards!

"Aside from the weak voice acting, Nihilum would even qualify as a commercial add-on for the original Deus Ex." - Lassi Lapintie, Pelit 8/2013

Big thanks to everyone who featured the mod!

Additional thanks to everyone who voted DXN into MOTY 2013 Top 100!

Deus Ex: Nihilum was also reviewed by the most prominent Finnish gaming magazine, Pelit, in their August 2013 issue (thus also fulfilling one of my earliest goals when it came to editing games). Suuret kiitokset!

Naturally, it's obvious that you can't please everyone and DXN certainly did receive plenty of comments from all parts of the spectrum. However, after going through all the trouble to finish the mod, I was very glad to find out that my efforts were appreciated by fellow DX editors like Trasher64 and {zXc}Henry from Deus Ex: Revision and SilverSpook from Terminus Machina. All in all, I'm very satisfied with the reception the mod got.

And remember, if you have any questions related to DXN's performance (or something else), CHECK THE FAQ FIRST! And if that doesn't work, the quickest way to reach me is by e-mail. I'll try to reply back as soon as I can/if I can!

I was also glad to notice several DXN playthroughs surfacing on YouTube - some raising valid points! If you want to check a 100% complete playthrough of DXN, check this one by RemmkeTV out!

Deus Ex: Nihilum - Queens, New York City

To sum things up/TL;DR: With critical acclaim from most of the players, fellow notable DX editors, ModDB and the gaming press, Deus Ex: Nihilum was a definite success! I really can't thank you enough! :]

And last, but definitely not least, do keep these Deus Ex mods in mind! It's great to see people still working on various mods for the game - please don't stop! ;]

Great job.

I have a little problem though. I finished the mission, and now I'm standing at the helipad waiting for the helicopter. Is the mod over?

Hmm, which mission you're talking about?
If it's the one at MPS after the hotel, you have to talk to the MPS Director downstairs first.
I did talk to him.

FastGamerr May 31 2013, 2:58am replied:

Hmm. Yeah, I could have scripted that part better. The helicopter will appear when a certain flag has been marked True during the conversation so the only solution I'm aware of is that you should try the conversation with the director again and let every line play a little before moving on. :\

Or if you have cheats on, just open 'legend' and add M61ChopperAppears = True into the flags section.

(At any rate, if a lot more similar and/or other issues come up, I'll try to get this one fixed in the first patch)

Well, when I talk to him, it doesn't enter a conversation, he just says one-liners over and over. i guess I'll have to try that cheat.

FastGamerr May 31 2013, 1:18pm replied:

Hmm. Well, when the level starts and you speak to him the first time, you should get a conversation where he congratulates you for the mission and then mentions the chopper (at which point the chopper sound should become audible) - after which he starts the one-linering.

Haven't heard of this issue before, but at this point you could either try restarting that level in particular or just trying the cheat :\

Excellent! The music is working and it sounds great. Now I just need to figure out why my character speed runs occasionally and some dialogue is skipped without me telling it to skip it.

Do you have Kentie's launcher or DirectX10 renderer in use? If not, you should use one or the other. It should fix the speed running etc.
