Initial Story
In 2049, unsavory conditions are rampant throughout the world. As soon as it becomes clear that a terrorist attack in Shenzhen, China, was carried out by perpetrators with ties to international groups and that Hong Kong may be their next target - the United Nations Anti-Terrorist Coalition (UNATCO) dispatches their first nano-augmented agent, Mad Ingram, into the city to prevent the situation from escalating any further.


Deus Ex: Nihilum (DXN, DEN or Nihilum for short) is a First Person Shooter mod taking place in an alternate Deus Ex continuity. It features new made-from-scratch original content, while also extensively featuring material from the UNATCO Born mod (used with permission from fender2k1, UB's project leader) and Deus Ex: Revision (used in accordance with the mod's license).


* Over 13,000 downloads in its first year!
* Completely new score with 80+ tracks (over 2 hours of music
)
* 2,200+ lines (more than 3.5 hours of audio)
* 7-13 hours of gameplay (estimate based on testers' playthrough times)
* Three new weapons: the Walther P99 pistol, Light Machine Gun 2049, Gauss Gun (EMP)
- Exploration is everything! Treat the levels as mazes and prepare for back-tracking! While it can be baffling that people are leaving valuable items and other belongings out in the open, agent Ingram doesn't seem to mind!
- Save often and use several savegame slots! This will hopefully save you a lot of time when it comes to handling certain odd issues.
- Encrypted datacubes: Remember, once you've hacked an encrypted datacube, you have to click on it again to make the datacube information window disappear.
- General rule on hacking: Keep in mind that you do not need this skill to advance the main plot itself. However, its general usefulness cannot be underestimated!

Deus Ex: Nihilum was also reviewed by the most prominent Finnish gaming magazine, Pelit, in their August 2013 issue (thus also fulfilling one of my earliest goals when it came to editing games). Suuret kiitokset!


Naturally, it's obvious that you can't please everyone and DXN certainly did receive plenty of feedback from all parts of the spectrum (you can read some of my follow-up thoughts from the anniversary retrospective). However, after going through all the trouble to finish the mod, I was very glad to find out that my efforts were appreciated by fellow DX editors like Trasher64 and {zXc}Henry from Deus Ex: Revision and SilverSpook from Terminus Machina. All in all, I'm very satisfied with the reception the mod got.

Don't forget that if you run into weird issues in DXN, PLEASE CHECK THE FAQ FIRST FOR POSSIBLE HELP! If that doesn't cut it, please check if the OTP Forums have had any experience over similar issues.

In addition to having its own TVTropes entry, I'm glad that there are multiple playthrough videos of the mod on YouTube - some bringing up valid points! If you want to see a 100% complete playthrough of DXN, here are at least three playthroughs worth checking out!

To sum things up/TL;DR:
With critical acclaim from most of the players, fellow notable DX editors, ModDB and the gaming press, Deus Ex: Nihilum was a definite success! I really can't thank you enough! :]

I sincerely hope that plenty of great mods will continue to be made for Deus Ex. :] In the mean time, check these out!

Just noticed in the Hong Kong level that the launduromat washers in that level are actually Miele WS5406's, I didn't know Miele still made them in 2049 as they were last made in the late 90s!

Nice touch for choosing the Miele Professional line though, FastGamerr.

Looks like you have Kentie's Launcher installed wrongly, since it's trying to use the OTP UI fix and failing. Try reinstalling it. Or change your screen resolution from the .ini files.

I honestly can't remember if the installer automatically installs a Deus Exe executable of DXN, but do you get to a screen like this when you try running the mod? Kentie.net

Hmm, I'm quite sure that most of the doors in that map were openable (if the door won't be highlighted by the engine, it can't be opened in any way, tho'). Some of the decorative archi (a lot of it used with permission from DX: Revision) might have intentionally inaccessible items in there, though...

The doors are not highlighted when I go near them, but they respond to the "opensesame"-command.

Ah yes, then they're probably not meant to be opened... I can vaguely remember removing any equippable items from such areas, though. Sorry! :\
