The "New Horizons" mod for the 2003 Pirates of the Caribbean game by Akella is a continuation of the famous Build mod series. Developed as Pirates of the Caribbean Build 14, "New Horizons" continued where Build 13 left off, adding more new content than ever before.

I put this video up yesterday and it was fine. I checked it a few minutes ago and it only lasted 2 seconds, so it has been uploaded again.

A large Spanish convoy was getting attacked by some Pirate ships when my 3 ship "fleet" happened along. The Pirate's were trying to get some ships to surrender to them and then let the rest of the convoy sail away. That did not happen.

It is possible to have 20-30 ships in sight at one time, but that is hard on the framerate. Three to ten ships is normal. There are maybe 14 ships in this video.

Yeah, my game tends to lag allot even though my system is perfectly capable of handling major and heavy games, the problem lies with the engine and its limits, plus having the worst combination for a PC also tends to be a bugger.

You are not going to see great fps with PotC. Water is very heavy on the hardware and there is a lot of it. Plus the draw distance is huge! You can literally see for miles. No other program I know of has draw distances that are even close. And that kills fps. I was probably getting 25-30 fps when recording this video.

So the POTC engine doesn't have a level-of-detail system integrated for 3D models??? Well, that complicates things quite a bit.

I forget the name that they are called, but are you talking about how there are hi rez and low rez versions of objects that kick in at different distances? Maybe as many as 5? I've always hated those things because things are always bouncing in and out of focus.
I will post a screenie of a ship taken at over 500 meters distance, and you can see that it still has good detail. With the best spyglass one can tell what country a ship is from by looking at the flag at 5,000 meters or more. It makes it very realistic as opposed to arcade like.

PotC runs quite smoothly even with lots of ships, but that greatly depends on your hardware. We have been changing some stuff in the modpack that increase the system resources required. But most modern computers should be able to cope with it just fine.
