"Pirates of the Caribbean: New Horizons", also known as PiratesAhoy! Community Build 14, has been in development ever since the release of Build 13 in early 2007. We have come a long way since then, adding much new content and many new features, some of which were thought to be impossible to achieve even by the original game developers themselves.

The intention is to provide as full an historical Age of Sail game experience as possible, both more realistic, but also more fun. New features include more storylines, historical detail, abilities for free play, variety and more customization than ever before. Not to mention that the graphics have also been improved upon, mainly with new models and textures, but also the sea itself and anywhere else that we could manage.

Although the game is called "Pirates of the Caribbean" and a lot of movie-specific content has been added, that is not all that's been done. Better still, there is a lot to enjoy even for those people who don't much care for the movies and it is entirely possible to play the game as a fully realistic period naval simulation, rather than a movie tie-in.

Build 14 Beta 3.2 is now available from our Downloads Section. If you are upgrading from a previous Beta 3 version, you only need the "Part 1: Installation Wizard". If you are doing a brand new install, use the "Part 2: Contents Archive" as well. NEW GAME REQUIRED!

Improved Role-Playing

Besides historical accuracy, we want this to remain an RPG too. So we have some new features included to specifically enhance this elements of the game.

When you start on your adventure you won't be able to get all the abilities right from the start. Some of them are now locked and each one has a separate way of unlocking. For example by buying and reading a relevant book or doing other relevant things. There will be hints regarding these actions on the lower difficulty levels.

The whole Caribbean itself is also made more dynamic. Events you read about in the Town News now have an noticeable impact. If a island is poor, less merchants will be sailing around this island on the worldmap. If an island has a large military, you will find more battles around.

The goods which an island import and export can change as well. Again, this will be noted in the Town News. And towns may need your help sometimes. If an island exhausts all of its resources on a certain project, you can go there to make a tidy profit!

Moon Phases

Yes, it is no longer "always full moon"! While not providing a major impact on the gameplay (yet!), it does vastly improve the realistic feeling while sailing at sea. The dates at which the moon phases occur are even historically correct!

New and Improved Ships

A curious ship indeed, the Polacca is not a regular sight in the Caribbean. But she has made the crossing from Southern Europe and can now be used for pirating or trading. A good all-round ship that should prove a lot of fun in the early game.

A lot of ships have been improved again, with redone rigging and new textures. But none more so than the Fast Galleons, which have had their models thoroughly improved. A great sight indeed!

Extended Storyline: Bartolomeu o Portugues

Our first-ever unique storyline gets extended once again! This time as a collaborative effort between two of our senior quest writers. With more content still in progress.

After stealing the golden throne at Havana, Bartolomeu's crew mutinies and leaves you marooned on a tiny islet. One lucky escape later and you find yourself once more in the employ of the Portuguese governor of Grenada. In fact, the famous Dutch mercenary, Johan Elting, will be helping you on this one. Good thing too, as infiltrating the city of Cartagena is not going to be easy.

Using a false identity of Spanish royal envoy to accomplish your task, you decide that the warship "San Martin" must be captured! But not before falling in love with the governor's daughter and getting into a tangle with her suitor and his men. Hidden tunnels, secret caves and a daring rescue await!

Future Quest: The Gold-Bug

While not yet finished, we want to give you a tease of what to expect in an upcoming update!

Based on the short story "The Gold-Bug" by Edgar Allen Poe, this brand new storyline contains many clever puzzles and interesting locations. Made by the same writer who created the Woodes Rogers story and with the same incredible attention to detail.

Over the Horizon

Is there anything after "New Horizons"? Well yes, of course there is! More "New Horizons", to be exact. Another update is always around the corner.

The next patch will also include the Historical Ship Pack as standard, along with even more new ships and bugfixes. As Pieter said, it's not long to wait now. ;)

I really hope that someone can help me out, I have a little problem with the game. More precisely I have tried to play the mod on two computers, and both attempts were futile.
Firstly I tried it on my laptop. I would add, that on my laptop, the original game wouldn't work either, this is a problem that I found many people complaining about; while the program starts, and goes into the main menu, and I start a new game, as soon as it loads, it just crashes to the desktop. Same goes to the mod. I know that many people have this problem, and I haven't really found a solution on the internet, but I thought that maybe up to this date someone already found a remedy. Can the graphics be a problem? (I'm using winXp, I have a 256 MB Mobile IntelR 965 video card, CPU is Intel Celeron-A 2000MHz).
Then I tried on a desktop computer. On this I could play the original game, but after I installed the mod and the patch, and after it loaded the xinterface.dll instead of starting the program it crashes and gives me an error message that "The instruction at "0x00ee8eec" the referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory cannot be read."
So can somebody help please? :)

Oh, and btw, the mod looks great :)

Skalle, it is your graphics card that is the problem: Intel onboard GFX cards don't like the game. This is the only "solution" we've been able to find, but it's far from perfect: Moddb.com

I would just like to say that there is something wrong with AmericaHeavyWarship (190) and FR_SuperiorWarship2 (192) as they made me crash =) and cant take photos of those two x.x .

You're very right about both those ships.
For the AmericaHeavyWarship, open PROGRAM\SHIPS\ships_init.c and find "AmericaHeavyWarship".
Replace it with "US_HeavyWarship", load your savegame and press F11 ro Reinitialize.
For the FR_SuperiorWarship2, open RESOURCE\MODELS\Ships\FR_SuperiorWarship2
and rename all files from "FrenchWarship" to "FR_SuperiorWarship2".
This will fix both errors. This will be included in the next Patch as well, of course.

Depending on the time period, there's different pirate flags available.
With no modifications made to the files, the Barbossa aka. "Calico" Jack Rackham "skull and crossed blades" flag is available from the Golden Age of Piracy period.
It is always sl.(sn).start.Flags.Pirate = 1;
