The Network Addon Mod, or NAM, is a modification for SimCity 4 Deluxe (or SimCity 4 with the Rush Hour Expansion pack), which adds a myriad of new transport network items, ranging from ground light rail, to fractional-angle roads, to roundabouts, and much more. It also includes bugfixes to Maxis items and a highly optimized set of traffic simulator plugins, improving pathfinding accuracy and performance.

nam33interchange

New features in Version 33--November 26, 2015
NAM 33 is a full package, which improves upon the earlier NAM 32 release and NAM 33 Pre-Release.

  • Massive update to the Draggable Ramp Interface (DRI) and FLEXRamp systems in the RealHighway (RHW) Mod. 90% of all previous static puzzle piece ramps have been given easier-to-use FLEX and/or draggable counterparts, and a plethora of new ramp interfaces for elevated RHW networks are now available, Wealth textures are included for ground level versions.
  • The RHW FLEXFly system has been completely overhauled, and now includes 90-degree and 45-degree versions, in single and dual-lane configurations, at Ground Level (L0), 7.5m (L1), and 15m (L2) heights.
  • The double-decker RHW-4 (DDRHW-4) has been lowered one level (from L2/L3 to L1/L2), increasing ease of use. The DDRHW-4 has also gained support for DRIs and FLEXRamps, including A1 and B1 Outside and Inside Ramps.
  • Disconnector added, to simplify demolition of FLEX-based RHW pieces.
  • Multi-Radius Curves (MRCs), in both draggable and FLEX form, have been added to the RealHighway Mod, in three different radii, for the RHW-2, MIS, RHW-4, and RHW-6S.
  • Stability improvements to the FLEX Height Transitions.
  • Major improvements to the RealRailway (RRW) plugin, which now supports most crossings.
  • Transit station functionality and compatibility has been further improved.
  • Minor fixes to other NAM components.
  • New High Speed Rail Project (HSRP) textures, courtesy of vershner.
  • The RealRailway (RRW) FlexTrack system makes an earlier-than-expected debut. See the FlexTrack User's Guide in the Documentation folder for more details.
  • PedMall functionality greatly enhanced with the addition of access paths to most non-Highway-type road networks, including NWM networks and Tram/El-Rail Dual-Networking items. Pedestrians may now directly access the PedMalls from these other networks without the need of a station or other transit-enabled lot/switch.
  • Many custom bridges that previously blocked all ferry traffic have now been corrected.
  • MandelSoft's previous RHW texture sets, including Euro, Ontario, and Irish/South African textures, have been discontinued. A new standard Euro RHW set, based on the default US set, has been added as a replacement, and adds compatibility for all current RHW features.
  • An issue with the NAM 33 Pre-Release in which the Controller Compiler would fail due to an XML read error has been fixed.
  • Several overhanging texture issues with the new RHW ramp interfaces have been corrected.
  • The R3 FLEX-Multi Radius Curve now rotates fully as intended.
  • A number of Left-Hand Drive transit path file issues across the entire mod have been added or corrected for proper functionality.

  • Installing over previous versions: NAM 33 may be installed directly over top of any previous NAM releases. It is a full release, not a patch or a hotfix. All
future updates are planned to be in full package form, and there are no plans to issue patches or hotfixes in the future. Please also note that the NAM Team only provides
technical support for the most recent version, which, as of this document, is NAM 33. We cannot assist users of the NAM 33 Pre-Release, NAM 32, or earlier.
  • Special Thanks: The NAM Team would like to extend its sincere thanks to all the members of the community who helped test the NAM 33 Pre-Release, offering feedback and helping us locate and solve bugs.

Note to Mac users: if you require technical support, you are more likely to get quicker and more detailed assistance if you visit one of the main SC4 forums.
SC4 Devotion (sc4devotion.com) is where the developer responsible for producing the Mac package (and the only Mac user on the NAM Team) is based. Simtropolis (simtropolis.com) also has an active SC4 Mac Users board, with a couple of very active advanced users, who are good at sorting out things.

Hi. I downloaded SC4 off of the Mac Apple store. I installed the NAM expansion pack and followed all the README instructions. However nothing shows up in my game at all. The files are in my SC4 plugins folder as well so I'm fairly certain they're in the right spot. Any help or ideas?

Make sure you didn't accidentally install just the "Traffic Simulator Only" option. If you require more help with the Mac version, I'd check one of the forums (sc4devotion.com or simtropolis.com). The knowledgeable Mac users don't really check this comment page (I'm not a Mac user).

Hi Tarkus. I've got a problem with NAM. I have recently downloaded it from Sim Divotion and ran into a problem. Basically, when I use the puzzle pieces, the game crashes. I've got all the dependencies and files for the game and it is compatible with my system. I've also used NAM before, but nothing like this has ever happened. My map is also clear of any TE or stations and I'm only trying to create a dirt road leading to a small village. It doesn't crash the game instantly, it usually lets me use the puzzle pieces for about 5 min. Then it crashes. I've read everything on the forum related to this issue including the stuff on this page. I don't know how to use the JDatPacker though, any help would be appreciated.

Replied to your previous post. Also, the NAM has no dependencies. Check the info in my earlier post, and also try a different city tile/region with a plugins folder that is clear of everything except the NAM.

Hi Tarkus, I have a problem when using NAM. My game crashes when I'm placing puzzle pieces whilst NAM is running. It crashes after I place puzzle pieces and the thing is, there are no stations whatsoever on the map. I'm simply trying to build a dirt road linking the main road to a small village.
Now it doesn't crash immediately, it hangs for a few seconds when it is about to crash. Do you know or have any idea on what the problem is?

I've read most of the threads on Simtropolis, but none of them states a real solution except for the one on this page regarding JDatPacker. The thing is, I've no idea when it comes to the packer since I've never used it before. What I'd simply like is for the ctds to stop. So any help or advice will be most appreciated.

First off, what operating system are you running? If you're on a Mac, then yes, JDatPacker would solve the number-of-files problem, and it's possible that's your CTD cause.

But the reason you haven't found a "real solution" is because there are so many different possible causes out there. There are other transit-enabled lots out there besides transit stations. It could be other mods/lots, perhaps a badly-modded overhanging lot that causes the immortal lot glitch. It could be the zoom bug (sometimes zooming in/out and rotating the view too quickly in certain situations can cause CTDs). It could be some sort of graphic situation. There's so many different possibilities. The hanging a few seconds before the crash is normal for many CTDs.

Also, with this dirt road you are building--are you using the SAM? You should only need to place a single starter piece and drag the street tool through the starter. Placing a bunch of starters right next to each other can cause some instability.

Make sure you've selected an option other than "Traffic Simulator Only". That option just installs the traffic simulator, and not any of the new road/rail options.

I installed NAM and everything seemed to install, no problems but when I open SimCiy 4, nothing is different. No extra roads etc... What am I doing wrong?

Make sure you've installed the Version 1.1.638 patch. That patch is required for the NAM to install. It can be picked up at sc4devotion.com (click the "EA Support" button on the left sidebar and it'll take you to all the official first-party file downloads).
