Mission Statement:
Neotokyo is a first person shooter that aims to provide a visceral & realistic combat experience in a rich futuristic setting.
Background Story and World:
Neotokyo takes place in and around a fictionalized Tokyo approximately 30 years in the future. Mankind has begun to fuse with technology. Government and corporate corruption have transformed Tokyo into a deadly dystopian nightmare. After a near-successful military coup by ranking members of Jinrai, the National Security Force (NSF) is formed - answering directly to the Prime Minister, it's mission is to investigate and eliminate all threats to Japan, both abroad and at home. The initial core of the NSF is made from an exodus from within the intelligence branch of the military. With this betrayal begins the war in the shadows between the NSF and Jinrai.

So after being quiet for so long, a new site has gone up with 64 pieces of brand new media from the Source version of this mod. I encourage you all to stop by and have a look, maybe stop by the forums or IRC while your at it.
The music playing on the site was made by Logic, who is contributing music to Neotokyo.

No updates for a year, forums kaput...I think this one's a gonner.
incorrect
Hm, the IRC info isn't on this page. Usually the forums had those details:
Nuclearfallout.wa.us.gamesurge.net
#neotokyo on the Gamesurge network
Personally im not fussed about seeing media as this can give the wrong impression **nuclear dawn** :P. Im more interested in the development process. What are the sticking points in creating the mod? What maps have been made and what is the setup? cheers
I hate to be pessimistic, but is there actually any activity going on at all? We haven't had any news or updates for almost a year now, the official forums are down and much of the music has been removed from the official site. I have had no experience of working on mods at all (only some level design projects for personal use), but I think >2 years is a little extreme, even for the Source engine which is incredibly boring/tedious to work with.
The final product when it eventually comes should be absolutely perfect, or I'm going to want to know what you guys did with all this time... <=/
Ok this is going to be my last post till the mod pops up on some news sites with information regarding release.
Yes, the mod is very much alive, it is currently being tested internally. As for the percentage complete to go public, I would say over 90% done right now. We want to port everything over to the orange box sdk and eliminate the css assets so you just need halflife 2 to play neotokyo. At the moment the sdk is pretty screwy, so hopefully Valve can take care of that and we can wrap things up soon.
Yes, we have tons and tons of media we could show you, but would rather you see the majority of it actually ingame when we release. It takes time to put together media updates and it is great to be in the spotlight but what is the point unless you are ready to release. It gets you popular, swarmed with questions etc, basically just distractions which we do not really want right now being so close to finishing.
If you really want to see media, I suggest you visit our irc channel on gamesurge #neotokyo as that really is the best way to keep up to date on the mods progress. You may even get selected to be a tester at some point.
In summary, yes we are alive, yes things are going great, yes we have a ton of media, no we do not wish to show any at this very moment but we plan to release in the very near future.
Not to mention the forums weren't very useful to the devs (Oh Ami! My post count! *sob*) and that Logic, aka Edward Harrison, is a bit of perfectionist and has privately given draft samples of his music to the developers for previewing.
The lack of news was to reduce the amount of unecessary hype surrounding the mod. Unfortunately, it's going to be impossible to satiate those who imagine long wait times entitle perfection. All the devs can do is keep working on the mod until they feel that it is fit to release.
Thanks for the clarification guys.
My apologies, I know it's not within my rights to expect the earth of you folks seeing as this is a free modification and I'm not even going to be paying for it, but believe me, if I had to I would.
Cheers.
But seriously, the devs are only going to start hyping the mod once they feel they have enough product to justify any advertising. No need to drag out your anticipation for months on end.
... Then again, if you were posting on this comments page for months on end, I guess this strategy did minimize your waiting period. ;)
Any type of premature media release tends to hurt a mod more than help it, as shown by Insurgency, Dystopia, and even Neotokyo. Just subcribe to an RSS or something. I recommend the HL2.net announcement forum RSS for automatic notifications of major releases. Changes are, Neotokyo news will pop up there when it comes, and you waste less time checking an abandoned page for DJB's comments.
Political turmoil in Pakistan. You worried as well?
