Natural Selection

Natural Selection is an action-strategy game for the PC. It is a "Half-life modification", which means it is written on top of the Half-life game engine. "Mods" are a new sort of underground game development that enables small teams to create games using the technology of existing games. This means less expensive and lower risk game development, which allows experimentation and innovation. This arrangement also implies that "mods" are made as art, not for making money. When complete, Natural Selection will be released for free to all owners of Half-life, which is required to play Natural Selection.
Game summary
Multiplayer-only Half-life mod where one team plays marines and the other plays aliens. The humans must keep their cool and work together to assault an alien-infested spacecraft or colony. Marines vs. marines and aliens vs. aliens scenarios are also supported.
"First-person strategy" with a real resource model and consequences for actions. Both sides are genuinely different and together they accommodate different play styles:
Marines::Fighting skill is less important, strategy and communication take its place. Playing as a marine will be a tense experience with methodical planning and strategy, interrupted with action.
Aliens::Playing as an alien will be an intense action experience, rewarding reflexes and alien heroics. Communication and coordination don't require typing.
Accessible, fast, mouse-driven interface: no keys beyond those used in Half-life needed.
Simple to learn and play, it is hard-core action/strategy for a mainstream audience.
Innovative social dynamics lead to memorable games.
Atmospheric indoor sci-fi environments full of steam, smoke and ambient soundscapes
Natural Selection is out, go get it already! :P

The Natural Selection manual is been released! It can be located online, as well as in a zipped download. It is entirely in HTML and covers tons of indepth information about how to play NS, background information, and tons of extra features.
Check out the Online Version and the Downloadable Zip (1.8MB, run index.html to start)!
A few errors in the manual which will be corrected first thing in the morning, but this will give you just about all that you need to learn about Natural Selection.

2.0 is the next step in the evolution of this AWESOME game. New everything, I mean everything, if you like 1.04, 2.0 will blow your mind. Its coming on July 31st to the masses, Make sure that you are ready becasue 2.0 will change the way you play a FPS/RTS. Yes, You read it right, Natural Selection is BOTH! How is that possible, DL the game and find out NOW!

Been playin for over a year now...hasn't gotten old...can't wait for 2.0...keep up the great work...and don't ever say CS mod :p...though i bought retail CS and play all my mods off of it...Half-Life is better than CS...i don't like CS of course...but thats off subject...NS r0x0rz m3 b0x0rz!!!

Umm, you know, this mod is based on a game called 'Half Life'. Counter Strike just didn't appear like every other game. It's a mod of half life too. These mods aren't built on a 'counter strike engine' :P
I must say this is definately one of the best CS mods out. It might be tricky at first, but once you submerge yourself in the alien or human side of the war, you will lash out and eat someone or cap them in the a$$ with your pulse rifle :) I found the characters to be great, weapons are great, functionality is great, overall a 10 of 10! I think this is the first mod I ever gave a 10 to. Congrats Natural Selection team!
