Napoleonic Era is a renowned, fan-made modification for Age of Empires 3 and its expansions The Warchiefs and The Asian Dynasties. The mod intends to accurately illustrate the time from 1555-1815 by greatly expanding and reworking the game with new units, buildings, maps, sounds, music and civilizations. The mod has been founded in January 2006 by Alexander Fleger and is being continued by Peter Piepenburg since February 2010. It is still one of the most anticipated mods for Age of Empires III in the whole world.

Hey everybody,

it's just been a week since the last release of NE 2.1.7, which provided Mac users for the first time with an installer and did rebalance and update a couple of civs too (i.e. the Germans). Due to a major visual bug (caused by bad file packing) we decided to quickly re-release a fixed version (and not a patch).

NE 2.1.7b will stabilize the recently released NE 2.1.7. Apart from fixing the major visual bug, this version also adds a new voice set for Polish and some new graphics for Americans, which you can see here:

Installation requirements:

NE 2.1.7b requires the latest AoE3 patches, but no prior NE installations.
You can install NE 2.1.7b over your NE if you did not install versions earlier than NE 2.1.6.
Otherwise please install NE over an umodded and patched AoE3.

You can read the NE 2.1.7b release notes here.

NE ONLINE GAMING
If you want to play against other NE players, you can join this NE Online Group on Facebook and ask for matches. NE has been played so far via GameRanger, Hamachi and ESO.

And now we will crawl back into our Skype chatrooms, working documents and surround us with code, sketches and graphics and prepare the next big thing. ;)

Happy Napoleonic gaming!

I love the mod, but some civs have awkward building textures- polish farms, and Incan... everything! I was wondering if these civs will get buildings that better suit their architectural attributes? Great work overall, though!

What do you mean with awkward?

Like how the polish use a native american model for their farm, and how the Inca use Aztec buildings that never receive any upgrades. Inca should get their own models for outposts, Logistics lodges, and barracks. (Just a suggestion).

The american ranch also looks out of place. Perhaps a corral with a square pan, and a american style building would be more appropriate? (still a suggestion). (Sorry for double post)

The Inca and Persian civilization are currently only bonus civs and hence work-in-progress, so let's not bother with these for now. As for Polish farms and American ranch, they surely could look more appropriate, even though I think that in spite of the farms being originally used in the Aztec civ, the farm itself doesn't really look aztec and hence like something alien in the Polish civ.

Do you intend to add the campaign mode to mod or will keep him only with multi-player?

And with the previous discussion, do you think there will be a good mod manager for AOE 3 by the time the new WOTTA comes out? I wanna play both!

The ones I tried, I couldnt get to work. NE and Knights & Barbarians

You don't need a mod manager for Napoleonic Era, it doesn't modify the AOE3 files. You can just switch to TAD if you want.

Napoleonic Era uses a file structure that is different to that of TAD (whose files other mods replace). However, they might be only partially compatible, because Napoleonic Era shares also a few files with TAD. For example, I could imagine that the civs are incomplete.

I'm not sure which file structure the Improvement mod uses, I guess it overwrites original AoE3 files. If you don't have NE yet, but want to have both mods and AoE3, you need one further clean, unmodded directory of original AoE3 in which you can install NE. Of course, this only works, if you didn't install the ImproMod in your only AoE3 directory.
