The last few months have been interesting for Movie Battles 2. After the incident around October that halted development completely while we picked up the pieces left behind, the only thing that was on our mind was moving forward. We wanted to show the community that has continued to support this game through hard times that something as simple as a complete loss in data and the age and decay of the engine weren't enough to keep us down, and that despite all of these hardships development would continue pushing forward.

November brought an obstacle for us to overcome: the release of Star Wars: Battlefront. We expected our numbers to drop further with the release of DICE's latest... masterpiece. We figured, it wasn't really possible to compete with another Star Wars title, especially one with the backing of a publisher like EA. Surprisingly, or unsurprisingly if you follow video game reviews made by well-known youtubers and streamers, we barely noticed a loss in population after the release of Battlefront. Guess you know you've done something right when TotalBiscuit, during a discussion on the Co-Optional podcast, compares a mod made by a collaboration of dozens of people over a 13 year period during their free time, to a Triple A title with millions of dollars in resources at their disposal.

The Co-Optional Podcast Ep. 99 [strong language] - November 21, 2015

December started off like any other month. Holiday vacation was rearing to start for a lot of people around the world, and with the the upcoming release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens reminding people of good ol' MB2, we were seeing pretty expected increases in player population. We figured to be around the same spot as last year going into the release of the movie, and didn't really hold out any hope that the golden years of Movie Battles 2 would come again.

Then around the time of the Winter Sale, we started seeing a pretty abnormal increase in total concurrent players, which we could only explain as fallout from the movie release about a week prior and the dropping in price of Jedi Academy to $2.00. Then it was pointed out to us that RockPaperShotgun, following the debut of the movie, published an article listing their top 10 Star Wars PC games of all time. Jedi Academy was a respectable #9 on their list, but what drew our attention was the mention and recommendation of Movie Battles in the article. They even got the URL for the new website right! Add a Steam featured review and we got our explanation.

Best Star Wars Games PC | Rock, Paper, Shotgun

With all of that publicity our numbers continued steadily rising. We followed the progress as it was happening, engrossed by the phenomenon that was our total concurrent players.

December 26, 2015: Most players online were 199.
December 27, 2015: Most players online were 213.
January 1, 2016: Most players online were 315.
January 3, 2016: Most players online were 414.

In roughly a week we had gone from just under 200 concurrent players, to just over 400. That doesn't seem like a lot of people, but for a mod of a 13 year old title it's astounding.

Only two things really need to be said here, I think. To the community that has endeared with us all of these years, through the hard times and the good; thank you. And to all of you joining us in-game for the first time, welcome; we hope you enjoy playing this game as much as we have working on it. As we promised those months ago, developing will continue pushing forward, and we'll continue pushing out updates and new content hopefully for years to come.

Was excited to play JKA again after a few years but apon first joining a server I was met with a ton of harassment, trolling, and spam for simply saying "Hello im new". Every server runs the same map, DOTF, I even get banned from a server for asking "can we change maps in a few rounds?". 12 year olds that think trolling is "cool" run the show here, the entire community is toxic and cancerous to the point where I haven't met a single person who doesn't spam the chat or TK eachother. Their forums are no help and any complaints about an issue is met with more trolling.

They scare away literally everyone that is new so if you really want to play this mod, my suggestion is to get your own server, password it, and invite your friends.

The mod itself is fun, if abit unbalanced. Sabers and snipers are the most used weapons/classes on public servers which just adds to how retarded it is. full atuhetic mode is alot of fun with decent players as theres tons of maps and scenarios.

But honestly, don't even bother with the community or public servers, it's just going to give you a headache. Plus theres hardly anyone that plays this now, so playing with friends is pretty much your only option. Good luck.

I actually came by this page because I was thinking about getting back into the mod and wanted to see what had been going on recently, but this isn't at all surprising. It has been a few years since I've played the game as well, but the community was really toxic even back when I was playing it religiously (and I must have put at least a couple hundred hours into it back in the day). It doesn't shock me that things have gotten even worse.

Yeah, Darkendmoon is a perfect example of these trolls. I used to play this game so much, never tried moviebattles tho. The mod itself has plenty of potential to be fun but honestly the playerbase is so toxic I gave up in a week of trying.

I went on their forums to ask why every server has the same map playing 24/7, confused since there was a ton of other maps, I got mostly trolls harassing me, even to the extent of stalking me on steam. And a handful of players told me the truth, that the map is garbage and it's just played because "thats how it is around here".

The funniest part is I saw tons of threads on both steam and their forums saying "we need more players why don't more people play this game" and yet a new player like me. excited to get into the community, is harassed untill I left. And they wonder why people are leaving/no new players come?

Trust me, stay far away.

Oh, and he says the EU servers are worse? I actually had a better time on EU servers than anywhere else, they actually played different maps once in awhile, and the trolling wasn't as bad and constant as other servers. But overall it's unberable, as the EU servers are only marginally better.

It really isn't that bad, unless you go to the EU servers. If anything, it has really been amazing so far. I've encountered like only 2-3 tking trolls since last year lol

When I launch JK I keep getting error saying ERROR: filename length > MAX_QPATH ( strlen(Models/weapons2/saber_striderFellowship/Striders_ranger_sword.jpg) = 65)
I've tried uninstalling JK reinstalling then follow MB installation guide.

* If you're running the Steam version of Jedi Academy and you get a MAX_QPATH error, remove mb2_rc_hangerc.pk3 from GameData/MBII.

Fell in love with this mod the second I laid my eyes on it years and years ago. I've barely looked at BaseJA since. One of the few games I always keep coming back to.
