Ten years of JKA


As you already know, Moviebattles is already over ten years old. Now JKA is 10 aswell! Exactly 10 years ago on September 17th 2003, the game was released. After all this time, people are still playing it. Here's hoping they will still be playing JKA in 10 years from now.

A few weeks ago we showed you some progress in a dev diary. Here's the second diary in what will hopefully be a long line of progress reports to the community. Please leave feedback and suggestions if you have any.

Clonetrooper


In order to make clonetrooper more versatile we've made some changes. You can purchase both ions and blobs. You're able to switch between them with the weaponmode key.


Ions have been tweaked aswell. The duration of ions has been doubled, but the amount of ions you can purchase has been lowered from 3/6/9 to 2/4/6.

Droideka

We're aware that droideka needs some balancing, so we've made some changes. For starters shield 3 has been lowered from 1000 to 800. Shield regeneration speed has been reduced a little and is now the same for every shield level.

We've also added a chatbubble for the droideka class:

The maximum available ammo has been decreased too, to prevent deka's from holding down mouse1 for a long period of time. This should hopefully prevent deka's from being able to surpress corridors for a long time, and instead they'll be forced to pick their targets more carefully.

Classic Jedi Temple


The old Jedi Temple map will be a part of the next release as well. It is the rather large version of Jeditemple with some similarities with the current one. The following screenshots should freshen up your memory:

The current (public) Jeditemple map will remain as it is, and this map will be added in as mb2_jeditemple_classic - so both maps will be included in the next release.

New Scopes

Most of you have already seen (or used) these scopes before. Starushka has made these some time ago, and we feel they're good enough to be used in the official release.

Hey, I don't know if anyone has asked this before, but when I try to join in a server, everybody is moving weird, like when people run forward, they either look like they're sitting and moving, or lying down,for 1 example. I have a Steam version of JKA, I installed MBII v1.0, put all of the files in the GameData folder, and set my launch settings as "set +fs_game MBII" without quotes. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, the mod, and tried restarting my PC, but this did nothing. I come ask of anyone who can help me with this problem, please. Thanks.

Did you have a version of Movie Battles prior to this?

Usually problems like that are animation related to the location of the mb_baseassets.pk3. As long as it is in your MBII folder and you're launching like you said you are, it should be fine. However, prior to V1, the MB_Baseassets.pk3 was in the base folder, which means it might be overwriting the file due to its location. Check to be sure it isn't there if you have installed MB2 before.

It wasn't in the base folder, but what I found in MBII was something similar, "z_MB_BaseAssets.pk3". I copied it and pasted it in the base folder, now everything is back the way it was.

I thought Movie Battles II is dead.But when i checked MBII's moddb page[here],i saw you guys posted some cool stuff like new loading screens & a new map named Dxun ! but im still wondering what happened to dotf v2 it is best revamp that im waiting for.I really thought this mod is dead :( [but good to see some news here since 2012].I wish we [MBII Players]could see new release this summer ..

DOTFV2 revamp was postponed along with a number of other things (Conquest, CC, etc.) because I was having a lot of personal issues and I was the one working on those tasks... It took two years, but those issues are slowly resolving and I have started work on things again. CC being the first finished. You will be seeing a release this summer.

It isn't recommended to start MB2 with the mod menu as it usually causes conflicts with other mods that may be present.

I would recommend starting MB2 with the Play_MBII.bat file that is provided (a short cut to it also works). If you don't have one, simply creating a text file, adding this: start jamp.exe +set fs_game "MBII" and saving it as Play_MBII.bat and double clicking it should work fine.

If you are on steam, I believe you can just modify the target with +set fs_game "MBII" to do the same.

Fell in love with this mod the second I laid my eyes on it years and years ago. I've barely looked at BaseJA since. One of the few games I always keep coming back to.
