Modular Combat is a role-playing shooter based in the Half-Life universe.

The Resistance, Combine, and Aperture Science are testing the HEV Mark VI Combat System. Combatants face off against each other, and monsters, in the Controlled Combat Testing Facility, which is monitored by a super-computer known as BoSS.

There are over 50 modules that can be upgraded at any level, in any combination. Modules give combatants amazing abilities such as flying, teleporting, spawning minions, and shooting flechettes or energy balls. Basically, if you want to kill something in a special way...

We have a module for that.

Note: The Modular Combat that you can currently download is broken due to an update by Valve (to its resource package format).

Well i managed to do just that! and not only did i do it, i wrote a batch file that completely automates the task for you! (damn thing took me over 8 hours to write and debug).

Important: If you have any of these games installed to a custom path outside of your "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam" directory then this fix will not work for you. You will have to do the manual fix or temporarily move the games back to their default steam directory.

To use the fix, you need the following installed:

  • Team Fortress 2 (the batch file uses a tool in TF2)
  • Half-Life 2: Deathmatch
  • Half-Life 2: Episode 2

These 3 are required for the game to work flawlessly. If you don't own Half-Life 2: Episode 2 then a couple of enemies will show up as huge red error models. If you plan on playing the upcoming Half-Life 3, i suggest you get Half-Life 2: Episode 2 because Half-Life 3 apparently will continue the storyline. Episode 2 costs $8 on Steam and you can get it here.

If you dont have Team Fortress 2 (it's free and won't cost you a penny) or don't want to install Team Fortress 2 then you'll have to do the manual fix. I haven't started on the video tutorial for the manual fix yet but once its ready, it can be found here. I also have to rewrite the server tutorial, so i'll do that tomorrow too.

To run the fix do the following:

  1. Download the zip on the downloads page.
  2. Extract the contents of the zip someplace on your hard drive.
  3. Double click "Fix Modular Combat.bat".
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  5. Wait. The whole process will take several minutes to complete and if you close the window, you'll have to start it all over again.

In addition, to give everyone a chance to play i put up 6 servers. I don't know if my server box can handle this many and if i can even host more than this, but we'll see how it handles it.

Each server is different:

Vanilla Maps Only: These are maps included with HL2DM and ModCom so you dont have to download anything. Gamemode change by vote is enabled.

Custom Maps Only: These are maps i converted to work with Modular Combat but you will have to download them but through FastDL. Gamemode change by vote is enabled.

Mixed Maps: A mix of all Vanilla and Custom maps so sometimes you'll have to download through FastDL. Gamemode change via vote is enabled.

Lol I can't believe you guys are still around.

I'm not really into modding groups anymore because I've been helping my friend with his indie mmo development a bit.

Game seems like it would be great, but there don't seem to be any server up. Am I just unable to see them, or is no one hosting?

They're up, they just don't always seem to show up on the main server list, but they do work if they're on your favorites.

Just forward your ports, and it should be join-able online. If you'd like to host a server that doesn't require you to be in it, you'll need srcds.

Find your router here-
Portforward.com

And if you want srcds, here's a tut-
