We are pleased and relieved to announce that Missing Information 1.6 is now available to the general public. The highlight of this release is of course the heavily overhauled Hyperborea chapter. We listened to your criticisms and what you will find in this mod is a rebalanced campaign with altered gameplay and a much better sampling of health and items, as well as numerous bug fixes. Yes, the crash bug in the last map is a thing of the past, and so is Odell's surreal descent down the stairs. Although admittedly the first year of this release's development was spent doing virtually nothing, we gained a few more team members and went into overdrive in the last year and three months with the determination to deliver something that felt as close to a polished Valve chapter as possible. We spent time coming up with a plausible story behind the Hyperborea, one that we feel is probably as close to Valve's original intentions as anyone is going to get, and we have done our best to ensure the gameplay and scripted sequences keep in line with this story. Many areas have received a visual overhaul as well and a sampling of new models and textures have been created to give the mod more of a distinct feel.

Hyperborea Borealis Submarine

We hope you enjoy the updated Hyperborea. We feel confident in saying that it is the most polished example of fixed content from the Half Life 2 leak, but that is up to you guys to decide. We really cannot thank you fans enough for being patient in spite of our inability to keep true to our previous release dates. Download links can be found here.

awesome! i actually have a question regarding the mod: the description reads "Missing Information aims to recreate Valve's original Half-Life 2 storyline found in Raising the Bar."

from what i understand there actually isn't one complete story but rather a collection of ideas. now obviously some creative liberties will have to be taken but how faithful to you guys intend to stay to these original ideas?

That description was written before I joined the team, and since then I have drawn similar conclusions that there is no singular unified "old story." This is the reason (or one of the reasons) why every mod that sets out to remake "the old story" winds up failing. The themes, locations, and events that are hinted at within the leak and RTB are quite fluid and don't always agree with each other. We ran into this issue with the Borealis, as there seemed to be two congruent storylines at work - one where Odell was always on the ship, and one where he evidently was tagging along with Gordon to investigate what happened. We opted for the latter plot as there was more material to work with.

So the answer is, it depends which snapshot of time we are looking at, and your definition of "faithful." For the most part I would like to default to visual themes that are different from what you see in retail to give the maps a "leaky" feel to them. However, a lot of the old maps are quite frankly pretty crappy in both visual style and gameplay, and so the challenge lies in updating these old maps with new/updated material while not being overly obvious that there are parts of the map that Valve didn't make. For example, right I'm working on an update for one of the old Depot maps and crafted a new interior space to make it a bit more interesting, but I have to be careful that it doesn't stand out too severely and that it has that intangible, balanced "valve" feel to it. I won't hesitate to alter the path of a map if I feel it suits gameplay better (I did plenty of this in the Borealis) but so long as it doesn't feel like some rubber-stamped "MaDE bY JuNK" sort of deal, I can sleep at night.

May I suggest that this argument be over? Its gone on several pages, and though its not my mod, it's still kind of embarrassing to see.

"While it is well known that you don't care that much for players, so why pretend?"

Take a step back and look at how whiny and entitled you sound, and then ask yourself who WOULD care about any of this naive **** you're saying?

If you're making this for yourselves then why does it have a public release?

So your saying that you don't care about any of your fans you have accumulated over the years, and are doing this for personal use? If that's the case, then why release it to the public in the first place if you don't want feedback, popularity, or respect? If this was your entire plan, then I must ask, why?

This modification not only follows the original valve art style but is also keeping users up-to-date again. With moronic individuals posting 5's out of 10 because of their lack of interest or understanding of a project of this scale, this leaves fans with pretty much all the knowledge of the Half-Life universe to rate a 10/10 and give information to support. Half-Life 2 was to have a 50+ hour campaign and have over 20 weapons. Fun fact: The Borealis in fact was owned by a scientific research team…

Well, it is a great mod, there have really been some work in this, but there is also some big glitches that makes it... bad. The stalker-looking enemies is not well made, they doesn't look good, but a nice detail with the laser, but it damaging a little too much. And if you have passed a checkpoint/loading screen, you can't go back without it crashes (or at least it was what happened to me). Then your partner tries to walk down stairs, he just flyes around it, walking in walls and so on, undtil…
