The true method of knowledge is experiment. So, strapped to the underside of a stolen Combine helicopter, you're part of my latest scientific investigation. Objective: To infiltrate and observe this peculiar little island a few miles off shore, its heart burrowed out by our ever-loving benefactors...
This felt as if I was playing Half-Life 2 itself with its level of build up and atmosphere; the levels are also live up to that.
This mod is the most awesome mod that i ever played the title has everything to do with the mod and its full of awesomeness
It was a well contrived story that kept me delving deeper. I enjoyed this very much, other than the constantly spawning enemies behind me in certain areas.
Played on Steam
Gameplay: Very similar to Half Life 2, and I like it that way, possibly even better!
Visuals: Again very similar with HL2, with some Valve-quality architecture, and well done levels.
Optimization: Ran very well on my bad Intel Hd Graphics 3000, while maintaining great atmosphere of the mod itself.
Price: Its free!
Playing this mod was a spectacular experience that left me wanting more. There were a few "ballistic" puzzles that made me come up with solutions that were different than the typical Half-life puzzle.
Unexpectedly gooood! No connection to HL locations. New story. Original progress in the game. MINERVA is the BEST MOD for me. Nice sound.
A very well made mod outside a few things:
The texts can be hard to read, not having enough time to read in peace was oftenly a problem.
At times there's just too many enemies and not a single one at others when you'd expect at least someone guarding the room.
The first layer of the base wasn't always using assets fitting the background (this isn't City 17 obviously).
The endless zombie wave can be problematic if you don't find what to do, having zombies spawning all the time didn't help.
I think that this mod is overrated, I have heard that was one of the first mods available, and sure by those standards it is amazing, but people have called this the best mod ever, and by today's standards it doesn't hold up. Their isn't really much variation in the gameplay from half life 2, which is a shame because the actual combat was pretty bad in HL2, mostly because the weapons were terrible pea-shooters that had little impact. The fact that there are no new weapons harms the game pretty badly as the game is mostly combat, now my memory is pretty fuzzy but I remember the story being a kind of infiltration mission, but the thing is the character of Minerva, the computer SHODAN clone thing doesn't really get much back story and seems hopelessly confusing. I give it a four out of ten, because of some truly impressive set-pieces, but I don't want set-pieces in my Half Life, I play half life 2 because you have so much freedom compared to most games these days. Half life 2 also had pacing and pauses in the action, in this mod theirs neither, you just dropped by a helicopter and shoot some dudes. Now to some this may seem like a hate speech, but I am only doing this because I want to have a community that can recognize when something is revolutionary, but after time has passed can see past the nostalgia and see that this is nothing more than a map pack, sure it's a pretty good map pack, but I play half life for the story and atmosphere, not the gameplay, and I think most can and will agree.
Great mod! I recommend!
An excellent Half-Life 2 mod with a level of quality that makes it feel as though it was taken from the game itself.
