Good day, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s.

Swallowed By Life

As time weathers all things, so too did it erode my ability to work on this project. No, hold your breath, this isn't a break-up speech. Following some rough personal turmoil, I relocated to a new area, and whereas I used to work-from-home, I now have a regular office job like everyone else.

To be brutally honest, that is where most of the delays have been coming from. I have vastly expanded responsibilities at my job now that I am there in person.


There is good news, however. My divorce tried to kill this mod, and that failed. My moving across the State I live in tried to kill this mod, and that failed. And finally, my aging rig (which blew a power supply and had to have some other components replaced) tried to kill this mod, and that, too, failed.

To celebrate not being "dead", I decided I would grab a new CPU (one which I believe will be much better at handling the extensive work needed in this mod) and that would jump-start a wholly new perspective on development.

Whereas in the past I must admit that a lot of things were half-organized and mainly driven by, "when I had time", I think I want to try a new approach to the development. One that is overall more organized, more streamlined, and easier to get into (as a developer).

Since returning to an office environment, yes - I may have less time than I ever had before. But the *good* news is, I also now have a much, much, much finer appreciation for what some good organization, an encouraging word or two from all of you, and a desire to see this project make it across that hallowed finish line that eluded so many STALKER mods before this one.

The Holding Of Breath, and the Calm Before The Storm

All-in-all, you are all wonderful for sticking it out. The one thing I am constantly reminded of is that we are *all* survivors. We are all STALKERs, and we are all part of a community that loves to keep the "Zone" alive. Every one of us who still enjoys these games does so because STALKER gave us what many games today still haven't; and that's a massive experience where our very survival depended on our quick wits, our ability to survive on-the-fly, and a game that nourishes our very will to live.

What does all of this mean? It means that, "it's time to get back to the business of making one of the best Clear Sky mods out there".

Look for updates coming in the next few weeks, and this time - barring a tornado dropping on my house, a flash flood sweeping my neighborhood away, or a real-life nuclear apocalypse - I'm pretty certain we'll be able to share some of the latest and greatest from our work we've been doing.

With this in mind, I am armed with new tools, and a renewed zeal for crossing that fairy-tale finish line - I believe we will see the Zone in ways we haven't seen it before by the time I am able to make M.I.N.E. yours.

The first is up, and processing.

Part 2 of 3 will start upload in approximately 8-9 hours, when my internet usage is back down to low (mostly due to self-induced voluntary unconsciousness).

Part 3 of 3 will then be uploaded when I resume consciousness on Friday morning (01/13/11), starting around 6AM CST (GMT-6).

Don't just stand there... come in!

I just realized that I completely forgot something. What's the current status of weapon mods in M.I.N.E.? I don't mean statistic buffs and stuff like that; but attachable silencers, grenade launchers, scopes, etc. Are we able to attach these to more weapons? Like, say, attaching the low-powered NATO scope to the base SIG 550 through use of a modification, and making the sniper variant have an actual high-powered rifle scope?

And what about weapons that don't have grenade launchers, like the Viper/MP5? Can they have something other than a grenade launcher attach to the underside, like a foregrip or laser pointer? Is that even possible?

Anyways, now-emergent questions aside, looking forward to the next video.

Also, you guys have the Mosin Nagant, right? Just wouldn't be the Zone without one. Bonus points if you can either buy a version with an integral scope, mod the weapon at an engineer and then attach it yourself, or find a unique version with an integral scope as an alternative to the first option.

What self respecting STALKER mod that adds new weapons would pass on the M1891 Mosin Nagant? Not this one.

As for weapons and their attachments, I'll leave that to Separation | Anxiety to answer when he next stops by, even if I have to e-prod him over here to answer.

Oh man! Wouldn't you know it? Here I am, at work, doing my usual, and alluva sudden I feel a sharp jab in the spleen!

E-prod... what a tool we have these days.

The current M1891/30 Mosin we have doesn't support a scope, but I do recall seeing meshes that did. I can't recall exactly, but it seemed like I was getting CTDs on the model that did when we tried to remove the scope in-game; as if the mesh didn't support it.

That's something we'll definitely have to thumb through again.

On the good news, the footage was taken for the newest video. The bad news is, it ended up being around 30 minutes of intense gun battles proudly showing off Fluffy22's new NPC damage code. Bad news, because at anything less than 4kB/sec it looks wretched, and at anything above 3kB/sec it gets file sizes that exceed the limit on ModDB.

The short end of a long stick is, I have to chop the video into threes again, and I will try to encode it again (a third time, after trying various codecs and compression tactics) and hopefully post it this week.

Sorry to keep you all in stitches; it's been a while since I had to do my encoding and it took me a little bit to nail it all back down. Expect some good-looking 720p footage coming your way soon.

It wasn't me - I'm still waiting for my e-prod to arrive. That's what happens when you shop online - waiting for delivery.

As for a scoped Mosin, I have a rather pathetic scoped version somewhere, but is better than nothing.

Glad to see you guys are still alive(can't say the same on stalker 2 but oh well).
Really like the npc damage especially because a bandit leader shouldn't take a shotgun full on.

Just popping in for a moment; but I thought I'd mention that we got our new CPU cooler and the machine that does the encoding is running MUCH, MUCH colder, thanks to three new Slipstream Scythe fans (120mm) and one new CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO CPU cooler (it dropped my temperatures from 157F at load to 104F at full load).

Translation: Video rendering in the coming week! May all of your holidays be blessed!

Just a quick update; first off, I apologize for the slowness of recent updates.

I've been pinned down by a heavy day-time workload at my day job, so things haven been a little slower on the mod-end than usual.

We are currently debugging the weapons we've added so far, and have made numerous improvements, corrections, and great strides towards overall mod stability.

In the area of the new character damage code, it is working well and the results are very rewarding.

I believe we will be able to post a new video demonstrating the improved NPC character damage that Fluffy22 has provided for us in the near future. This will enable you to see the difference between what you're used to (shooting someone several times with half of the shots seemingly having no effect) and the new code, which increases the damage the AI suffers to more realistic values.

Thanks to everyone who continues to follow us; things are rapidly shaping up and we're excited about sharing the development of M.I.N.E. with you.

On the note of not having the game, and without resorting to shameless advertising, it's now like $9.99 USD through Steam.

I thought the original game was pretty good - but the mod that got me hooked and kept me hooked was "Faction Fronts". It's the whole reason I didn't outright abandon Clear Sky.

What we have here, then, is an expansion of what my version of the Zone would be like.
