Micro Space becomes a stand-alone project which is based on Freespace 2. You will be able to play the mod without a Freespace 2 Client. This project is going to be developed by two people. We are using the SCP of Freespace 2 (Source Code Project) which means we have all shader effects you can find in current games.

The game dynamics will be adopted and the graphics are quickly done what guarantees a fast progress. Goal is approximately 1-2 ships per week. The final count of used ships has not been decided yet. All ships get unique, impressive effects.

Some of the universes you can choose from are:

  • Star Wars
  • Star Trek
  • Battlestar Galactica
  • Stargate
  • Babylon 5
  • Alien etc.

To make the battles more fun, we decided to use a toy-look for all space ships.

That looks really nice, are they concepts or renders, anyway i love the style, thumbs up!
Although why go for Freespace 2? Why not a later engine?

Freespace 2 has everything we need and it's gonna be improved by professional programmers continuously. FS2 is also easy to handle and the most important fact: we can make this mod stand-alone. No Freespace 2 is required to play this mod.
Re the images they are renderings with the final game models. In-game they will look nearly exactly as you can see them on the renderings.

The engine just got support for pixel an vertex shaders (version 3.0).

Only the X3 engine is more up-to-date at the moment. However, it lacks real modding support and decent tools. Let alone multiplatform support...

I don't think there is a better engine for a space based game at the moment.

In-game screenshots will follow, once we have got enough content to show anything representative.

I love how Freespace 2 refuses to die.

The real trouble sounds like having to balance out the ships abilities from different universes.

This sounds promising :)

You should seriously consider having voice-made sound effects, like "pew pew" for lazers, which would improve the "mini" style. Use the Worms games as inspiration :)

This could be really fun!

Where do all these great mods come from, which I see the first time on Moddb, now? Ever since they opened version 4, I se a lot more finished, or promising mods than I did before.
This could definately be a lot of fun and you chose a good engine to put it all to work. BSG beyond the red line runs on FS open and it looks absolutely brilliant, too.
