Our goal as a team is to realize the world of J.R.R. Tolkien as closely as possible to his vision. We hold the lore to a very high standard and
will try not compromise to it. We use the films for inspiration, but base our visual design mainly on the descriptions in the books and the works of
Ted Nasmith and John Howe. We work very hard to bring a quality greater than that in vanilla Skyrim. We want our work to be looked at on the
same level as that of a professional game.
An Open-world Middle-earth RPG like no other!

Currently, we have a complete heightmap of Middle-earth (over 9 times the size of Skyrim!). The first stage in developing MERP is
landscaping, and creating settlements on our heightmap. The next stage is designing interiors, then creating NPCs, quests, and so forth.

Full Ringbearer storyline:

Play the role of the Ringbearer, Frodo Baggins. Its up to you to decide the fate of the One Ring. Will you journey to destroy it: from the
quiet Hobbit town of Hobbiton, to the fires of Mt. Doom, or keep it for your own selfish desires? Will you follow the famous path taken by the
Fellowship, or do you destine to take your own path? The choice is yours to make. One fell step could mean the end to Middle Earth itself!

Heightmap:

A map over 9 times the size of Skyrim. From Forochel to Harondor and from Forlindon to Rhovanion and every town and great city in-between.

Weapons and Armour:

Wield new weapons and armors designed specifically for Middle Earth.

Quests:

Adventure awaits across all corners of Middle Earth! Join the White Council, become a soldier amongst one of the great armies of
the Free Peoples, or simply travel from town to town. Your own great journey lies ahead!

Battles:

Join in many of the famous battles in the War of the Ring: from the Battle of the Hornburg all the way to the Battle of the Pellenor Field.

Creatures:

Meet and battle all the known, and unknown, creatures of Middle Earth: new farm animals, Ponies, Boars, Wargs, Trolls and even the mighty Balrog!

Happy new year everyone!

Its been a while since the last news post, so we thought we'd make a new one for the new year just to give everyone an idea of where we are at currently. Don't worry, we haven't gone anywhere.
We all had a lovely Christmas over at MERP HQ, its been quite quiet, but then again, we've had no work to do. Hope you lot a had a great Christmas and New Year too!

So, the bit every one wants to know about, how is the C&D situation going?
Well, we were in contact with WB's attorney before Christmas, but haven't spoken to them for about a month due to the holidays. We hope to get back into negotiations soon, but because of their other lawsuit with Tolkien Enterprises, we've been swept under the rug a little. It looks more hopeful than a few months ago, I'll put it like that. The negotiations are currently under an NDA, which is why we don't post much anymore, but the team are still actively fighting for MERP.
The petition also just surpassed 26 000 signatures, which is just mind-blowing, we never thought we'd even get a fraction of that, so Thank-you so much for getting so many people on board and for your continued support on here and on out Facebook page.
We hope to be able to tell you more about the situation as soon as possible.

In other news:

  • MERP scored in the top 50 mods of 2012
  • Happy Birthday Tolkien! (January 3rd)

That's all for now, but we hope to post more soon!

-Happy new year from the MERP team
^MEB

PS: RecoveryAnonymous, you are an absolute legend, all the medals to you :D

I asked MEB (MiddleEarthsBane) last night on the forum chat, he said this to me: "I dont own a kinect (yet) so no"

Personally I think that this is the perfect way to do animations though, it's quick, easy and accurate from what I understand.

So who is wanting to donate a kinect camera? It's not like they're any use on the xbox anyway :P But seriously, would it be 'making profit' if we would all donate a few bucks for a pair of kinects? For I can't see the profit in that, other than that the team will end up with two kinects to their disposal in the end...

Guys, if I am going to get a Kinect in the near future, I'm gonna help you, I could just buy a second-hand one(though probably in a few months) until then you should ask members from your team if they have one(and if they are willing to try the program)

I think you can pick second hand ones up for around £60 or so. I dont think paying ~ £100 for something which might not even work the way you want it to would be wise, it would be better if someone already had one to try...

Well, there are a lot of handy hacks that I would like to try so I think I'm gonna get one but only in 2 or 3 months.

Yep, battles will be inluded. But you won't be able to partake in them all in one playthrough, since some happen on the same day in opposite corners or Middle earth.
And yous, if you play as Frodo you will be the ringbearer and probably will ahve the choice of where the ring goes ;)

Damn, there's going to be a lot of different ways you can walk as Frodo, but I guess that some of them will end in a big "game-over" or something right. As you said previously, you can't afford to built a Middle-Earth ruled by Sauron, right?

True. But that is why we have two other modes of play where you aren't Frodo, so you can "safely" experience all the events that go on in Middle Earth. And yes, there will be a lot to see and do, one play through will not be enough.
