This is an optional download! You can play without it, but you will miss the beauty of the game! Unless you're pc can't handle it!
So what are the LOD Files for? LOD - Loaded on Distant, this is as called in Oblivion " The Far away Land", I recommend using this if your computer can handle it, far away mountains and lakes, it's very rewarding if your computer can handle it.
All of the lod files should be in place in these directories:Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data\textures\landscapelod\generated
Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data\meshes\landscape\lod
Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data\distantlod
You must have LOD turned on in your start up option to see the LOD
