Mentality Alpha Demo v.0.1
Oct 12, 2008 Demo 38 commentsFirst release of psychological HL2 mod, 'Mentality'. Please note that this is not polished by any stretch, nor optimised heavily, but we wanted to give...
Mentality is a story driven horror fps for release around November 08.
The main attraction to this game is the mental instability of the character you control; this means his perception of reality and his mind is often hazy, allowing interesting environments and characters.
The game is about an infection that has overrun your location. The inhabitants have become mindless beings; they are riddled with the virus that eliminates all social interaction skills, and they generally prey on any uninfected life forms. Whilst long term carriers of the disease are visually decrepit, the amount of time an individual is infected determines how much of their body is physically ruined.
You as the player fights the battle not only with the virus and it's victims but also with your mind. It constantly plays tricks on you, warping the scenery/atmosphere and voiding any comfort zone you thought you once had.
Brace yourself.

Just to begin with, thank you all again for all the constant support and constructive criticism to make Mentality a better mod. At the same time, Mentality is at a bit of a stand still at the moment.
Here's Why!
Our art team recently completed the Advanced Diploma in Screen: Game Art so we're all qualified. At the same time we were applying for work. Both I, Paul Cherry, David Whittaker and Alex Colvin have all scored positions at 'Team Bondi' in Sydney. Of course a while back Gayan Ediriweera (one of our programmers) was employed by 'Krome Studios' here in Adelaide. Craig Eickhoff has also been accepted into the very prestigious online 'Animation Mentor' course.
The moral of this story really is that whilst we will do out best to not let this project die, we feel it will be something we will continue at a later date, purely due to a lot of us moving and separating and being too busy with the other things in life. On a fantastic note, we hope you can all see how this has been an extremely beneficial experience for us, as our hard work has really paid off. And we can encourage all you other teams to continue to strive for what you're aiming for, because if video games are your passion, why not make it a career choice.
We'll be back!
Regards,
Sam Williams

You could, if you really wanted to, load up one of the Half-Life 2 levels while playing Mentality. Can't guarantee that everything will work right though :)
How the fuck can it be dead? Cant you just continue the work on it but just only have those zombie things that run at you?
Hey!HEY! GET TO WORK YOU LAZY NEW ZEALANDERS! Kidding, but hows things going and if your mod is dead, can I have your mod stuff?
lol New Zealand? dunno where that came from. I havent talked it over with the others but im pretty sure we will keep all our mod stuff to ourself regardless of the status of it. I think we would all like to continue working on it further when we can, and giving all our hard work to some1 we don't know wouldn't sit rite. Now were not so much dead as we are busy. I cant promise anything but the want to finish this mod is there.
