You want Soviets to build something that damages their own units? They're not stupid.
This is advanced seismic wave channeling technology at work! The shockwave still damages anything that gets in it, be it friend or foe.
The lore explains that there is a wave directing mechanism.

Wow, and I thought the Grand Cannon was a useless waste of space when it comes to defenses.
Balancing for the win.
Grand Cannon: Long Range, less things it can hit at once.
Soviet Hammer: Shorter Range, more things it can hit at once.
Considering some of the tactics used by some sub-factions, defenses that can damage multiple units will be a blessing.
If the soviets can get electricity arcs to target what they want without damaging their own stuff, i'm not surprised they can do so with seismic weapons.

Yup, that's why you shouldn't expect Grand Cannons, Hammers or ... to form an inpenetrable defense line. You need to support them with units and lower tier defenses.
So they aren`t very usefull against infantry?

Not really..if you remember "Defender" he didn`t had shells either!
Personally I don't like invisible insta-hit tank shells but that is just my opinion.
I mean that some units like "defender" in 2.0 and "Pitbull" in 3.0 won`t have shells..this doesn`t mean that the rest of them won`t have.

awesome! but will it work attacking someone on a bridge high up in the air? also can it kill subtrainian units under ground? it would be cool to counter drillers in some way :p
