The problem I see here is if you hit a bump going at high speed you're falling out of the back.

You forgot to take into account the weight of the Adamantium balls each crewman has.

So can you pick whether you want Heavy Bolter Salamander or the Heavy Flamer Salamander in-game?

that's something i'm not entirely sure about. we'll figure something out at some point, but i was hoping it would be changeable like some vehicle mounted MGs are

Description

The Salamander Command Vehicle is an Imperial Guard vehicle based around the same chassis as the Salamander Scout Vehicle, the Chimera. It is equipped with better command and communication equipment and are often used by Armoured Fist Company HQs in order to keep up with the formation while commanding an operation. The Salamander Command is built with extra communications equipment built in and is used as a combined HQ/transport vehicle. It is often used to transport staff around the battlefield. Each vehicle has a dedicated comms officer trained to use the highly advanced communications equipment.
The combination of high speed, good protection and advanced comms-equipment means the Salamander often finds roles outside of HQ units. Often they are used as artillery spotters and Commissars have been known to ride in them. They can also be used to tow equipment if Trojans are unavailable.
