READ THE MANUAL AND README.TXT BEFORE PLAYING

A NOTE FOR BEGINNERS:
The AI is challenging, depending also on the map. The easiest map so far is Country Roads. If you are a beginner set the easy game difficulty in the option menu, otherwise you might find the game frustrating. You can increase the difficulty setting later, when you have learned the game mechanisms.

INSTALLATION:
Unzip the file in the Mods folder of Men of War. If it does not exist, create it and then unzip the mod there. Start Men of War, go to Option, then go to the MOD tab. There look for the mod in the left list, select it and use the arrow to move to the right list. Press Apply.

KNOWN ISSUES:

The reinforcements menu might cross the display boundaries sometimes, especially when you are using a 16:10 monitor. There is not much I can do because the reinforcement menu is hardcoded, so I can't change it. I've tried to add more reinforcement categories, so It shouldn't be a great problem now. I'm sorry but apparently making a slider for menus and windows was too hard for DMS

MOD GOALS:
Men of War is probably the best ww2 strategy game on the market, but it lacks most of all one thing: a skirmish mode where you can have huge battles against an AI player. It is a shame that you have so many units available that you can rarely use in the campaigns.
Battlefield mode is a unique skirmish mode, more advanced than those you can find in Assault Squad, whose objectives are the following:
•    Create a challenging single player skirmish with a great variety of battles.
•    Build a sandbox to allow inexperienced players to set up their own scenario quickly given a prebuilt map.

BATTLEFIELD MODE IN DETAILS:
Battlefield mode is a skirmish mode based on map point controls. Unlike multiplayer games, control points provide resources to buy reinforcements. Each control point grants you command points, used to buy reinforcements, and tech points. Tech points are needed in order to unlock more advanced units. Every minute you receive a new amount of command and tech points based on the control points you own.
Besides each nation can use a set of Support Commands which unlock Support Operations. Support Operations are special abilities like airstrikes or special unit reinforcements which can be unlocked by support points. Some control points provide you with these support points.

CURRENT PROGRESS:
The mod now includes several Battlefield scenarios and 5 playable factions (Germany, USA, Commonwealth, Japanese Empire and Soviet Union). Besides I have completely reworked gun stats to make them more realistic (based on penetration tables from www.tarrif.net) and added new units (some taken from other mods, see the credits in readme.txt).

FUTURE GOALS:
•    Include Soviet Union and Axis allied nations as playable factions in the Battlefield mode.
•    Convert the mod for Assault Squad.
•    Make some tutorial missions for the Battlefield mode.
•    Write a tutorial explaining how to set up your custom battlefield scenarios.
•    Create a campaign for each of the nations.

During a test I decided to record a video showing the new AI in action. The map is "Contry Roads", I am playing with Germany using the Infantry Support Command, while the Russian AI is using the Urban Warfare Support Command with the "Hard" difficulty setting. The video does not contain the whole game because it was too long, but it should give you an idea of how the new AI behaves.

I couldn't upload it directly into the video section here on moddb because the video is too large, and youtube URL does not seem to work in the upload section. You can find the video below. Meanwhile I'll keep trying to upload it from youtube URL.

Hello, I'm new to the mod, I've just downloaded and played. And I have to say this is a good work since I haven't got a chance to get access to such game play beside getting online. And I could ask why the Soviet hasn't been implemented, they are one of the original factions of the game, and the Axis allies would be the Romanian, Italian,... and if their weapons are from MoW red tide, I would find it somehow imbalance since they didn't get any equivalent medium, heavy or even SPG in the aspects of quantity and quality compare to other factions.

Soviet Union hasn't been implemented yet for the simple reason I'm still working on this mod. This is a Beta version not a full release. Soviet Union will come after I've converted the mod to Assault Squad.

Soviet Union will have the unique feature called "modernization". Basically every kind of unit (infantry, infantry support, light vehicles and tanks) will have modernization operation. Basically it is a timed ability that when it is turned on it unlocks a better version of the same unit. Each modernization will have 2 levels. For example, if you activate the tank modernization the T-34/76 mod. 1941 will be upgraded to the newer version of T-34/76 mod. 1943 with APCR rounds with level 1, and to T-34/85 with level 2. The KV-1 will be upgraded to KV-85 with level 1 and to IS-2 with level 2. The SU-76 will be upgraded to SU-85 with level 1 and to SU-100 with level 2. When the modernization becomes inactive (after some minutes) than all the tanks are reverted to the basic model. The good thing is that the price is very low even if they are very good units.

As for Axis allied nations, the main nation will be Italy. The lack of good guns and tanks will be compensated by itsspecial features: Morale and Veterancy. Morale allows you to replace infantry losses and to unlock new and more advanced tanks. The units unlocked depend on the chosen Support Command. For example, the basic medium tank for Italy is the M40 tank. If you research the level 1 Morale, with the Afrika Korps support command, you unlock the Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf. L, with the level 2 you unlock the Pz.Kpfw. IV Ausf. H. Unlike the Soviet modernization, the morale upgrade will be permanent.

Veterancy will allow you to deploy more expert units (infantry) with better stats and equipment.

Modernization of units on the field? Hopefully not. You are talking about the menu of request (call-in options), right? Otherwise it would look too wild, if units would be changing in the midst of battle.
And why even bother about such doubtful features, but not just give an option to order any unit a player wants, as long as he can afford it (different price and tech level)? Or, if you so wish, make it not a temporary ability, but a voluntarily made upgrade, with respective costs of units in the line going up, so a player would have to make a choice weather to keep producing cheaper, but crappier units, or to advance to better but more expensive ones.

Maybe I didn't explain myself very well: modernization will unlock more modern versions of the same unit not replace those already deployed. The thing is exactly as you described: you turn modernization on and you get the better version of, for instance, the T-34. Each level of modernization is unlocked when you reach the needed tech points and you need to activate the previous level of modernziation to unlock the following (that is, to have access to tank modernization 2 you need to turn on tank modernization 1). The new units will cost more than the basic version but not so much (for example I had thought that a IS-2, which is better than a Tiger, will cost around 800 command points vs the 1100 of a Tiger).

OK, thanks for clearing that out. It seems as an interesting feature, the way you describe it.
I was thinking about famous soviet artillery supremacy of the Soviets (in simplified way you can say, that every army had some outstanding feature: air supremacy of US, naval supremacy of UK, armor one of the Reih, and artillery one of the Soviets): will it be anyhow reflected in their design? Maybe some heavy off-map artillery bombardment on request?
I wouldn't know if it's plausible in terms of balance though, so it's just my curiosity, not as much of a proposal :)

Well i really liked it, i hated that on MoW vanilla you coudnt even play with UK on singleplayer. Now i can beat the jerries! But it is quite hard, so im playing on easy and against the japanese since they dont have any heavy armour unlike germany.

I mean, don't underestimate the Japs just because they don't have good tanks. They have the best air force of the game, build a lot of anti air guns or you will be wiped out by their bombers.

Your opinion, maybe you like more the Men of War control point style where anyone gets everything at the same time, I don't.

By the way, the AI has access to heavy tanks exactely when you do having the same amount of resources. It is true that it tends to spam stuff, but it is made on purpose because otherwise it is too easy: it can't build fortifications like sandbags (and I can't code that because of engine limitation) and it doesn't have the control over units you have.

The Idea itself is good. But the problem is, that I don't stay any chance against any of the AI enemies. I'm more a defensive player. I cap some points and than defend those(also its more fun than rushing and spamming). So I always try to defend than to spam and if I do it that way.. the enemy will pop up with some tanks and I have actually nothing than.. maybe a Panzer 1 and there was nothing to counter them. I'm a CoH BK mod player. I suggest to give more units to the player from start. Getting the points for those vehicles is already hard enough I guess.

I don't have any fun in spamming my units splitting tham trying to cap the points.. and than spamming tanks to kill the enemy. Well just me. No disrespect to the work!

You approach the game in a wrong way. Germany isn't a camping faction, it is a faction which has to rush the enemy thanks to early vehicle superiority. If you are a defensive player, play Japanese Empire. With that faction you can use your heavy engineers to build concrete bunkers and 200mm static naval guns which are very good at defending. Furthermore, if you choose the Fortress Support Command you can activate the Coastal Battery support operation which gives your heavy engineers a 305mm Bunker construction kit.

Anyway, you can defend even with Germany, it is really easy. Just build sandbag walls, and place some MG-42 around. Place first PaK35 to counter light vehicles, then when you unlock it, PaK40 in key areas to protect your points. You unlock PaK40 with 8 artillery tech points, so if you play Bazerville you will get them in 5 minutes or so, even less if you own the middle.

USA gets Sherman and Hellcat when you unlock Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf.G (having the same resource income), so you can use their superior firepower to knock them out from distance. You get Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf.H before they unlock Sherman 76 (and if they don't pick the Armored Cavalry support they can't unlock it). Another good thing is Germany unlocks Nebelwerfer 42 at 8 artillery points, and they are very useful against large infantry groups and vehicles.

I was a BK player too and in pvp if you camped too much you surely lost the game.

If the AI is too hard for you, try to play at easy level first, then you increase the difficulty. I mean, you are the first player who tells me that the AI gets stuff too early.

Unique and much needed, in my opinion, mod, that provides the opportunity for a good old random "multiplayer-style" (unscripted, unlike any scenario, that come in a sackful) comp-stomp on a great variety of maps, which was long missing for so many Men of War players.
