Median XL 1.A9c (latest version)
Aug 02, 2009 Full Version 31 commentsMedian XL 1.A9c for Diablo II Lord of Destruction 1.10-1.11-1.12 (PC/Mac)

______
The main attraction of Median XL is the brand new skill trees, 30 skills per class, providing a whole new experience. The mod also offers a new base item setup with 7 quality tiers, 475 uniques, 310 runewords, a new affix pool and gem/jewel stats, honorific items and many new and powerful crafting recipes.
All this would be for nothing without the monster AI modifications and new abilities, elite and heroic monsters with even more powerful skills, and for advanced players there are 29 new uberquests based on Diablo lore and the challenges, which reward you for killing bosses at a low level or two of them at once.
A bullet list of all changes would take up most allowed space in this description, so please consult the official site.
List of features
Skills
The 210 new skills (25+5 per class) give rise to very different build strategies. Ever wanted to build a throw barb, poison sorceress or bloodwitch amazon?
Amazon - archer, spearmaiden, huntress or bloodwitch, choose your devotion!
Assassin - adept at physical and elemental melee and can throw knives and place time bombs.
Barbarian - powerful warrior, but can also throw axes and summon ancient spirits.
Druid - elementalist, bow hunter, and capable of charming monsters to your side.
Necromancer - minions, corpse totems, melee and crossbow attacks. Join the army!
Paladin - choose between the holy path of Auriel or the shadow dogmas of Imperius.
Sorceress - pagan elementalist or poison witch. It's witch hunt payback time.
Monsters
What would new skills be without new monsters to pulverise? The focus here is on AI and skill changes. From hammer-throwing clerics and quill rats with homing spikes to corpse exploding goatman priests and frogs that turn into a prince when killed, the new monsters are more than a match for the new skill set. There are a few brand new monsters here and there too - fear the mushroom people.
Elite monsters
Much more powerful than regular monsters and with new and improved skills, these rare encounters send you running for the hills.
Heroic monsters
Even more powerful than elites, these are thankfully restricted to their own special dungeons... mostly.
Uberquests
These are special dungeons, levels or player-summoned bosses that should only be attempted by the skilled and powerful. Median XL offers 16+1 uberbosses, 8 uberlevels and 4 separate bosses, most based on Diablo lore. The uberquests range from the invasion of Toraja by the edyrem to the cursed city of Ureh (from the Diablo novel 'Kingdom of Shadow') and an uberquest that recreates the capture of Baal by Tal Rasha and the Horadrim... with you as Baal.
Challenges
Completing difficult tasks and encounters at a low level or without spending all of your attribute points may earn you big rewards... from powerful charms to additional new skills.
Items
While some people play the game to defeat the denizens of Hell (haha), for most others TEH L00T and the bragging rights that come with it are more important. Median XL does away with normal, exceptional and elite items, instead providing six 'tiers' of item quality. Baal may drop a cap, but it will be a cap with 600 defense on it. Median XL also features many new class-specific items to augment the new skills, from necromantic crossbows to the assassin naginata with a built-in multitarget sweep attack. A huge collection of new uniques, sets and runewords is a given, of course, as well as some much more powerful crafting recipes.
Multiplayer
Median XL supports single player, tcp/ip and open battle.net. Closed battle.net ('realms') obviously won't work, but certain third parties have provided alternatives... Check out the D2 Maniacs mod server.

This patch features the following changes over 1.99d:
New skills
Some useless skills have been replaced with other skills. The sorceress in particular is now finally worth playing and the amazon has a new main build.
Dragon's eggs
You may find these on the ground in Act 2 and Act 3 overground areas. Break an egg, kill the Baalspawn dragon that emerges and use a specific item reroll cube recipe for free for 30 seconds!

More runewords
That's 60 new runewords to fill the gaps in the runeword progression.
Torajian great runes
Due to the success of the Fauztinville great runes, 3 more have been implemented, which drop only in the Toraja uberlevel. That's the one where you fight alongside the Edyrem and need their help to kill the monsters. You may need special tactics to actually farm this level.
Improved superunique bosses
Most superuniques starting in mid-Act 1 are now based on elite monsters. Just when you thought it was safe... elite bosses.
Balance improvements
Many skills, items and monsters were rebalanced.
Realm wipe!
The official (d2maniacs) realm starts a new ladder season!

Notice: some of your items may end up with lower stats or different skills on them. This is not an intentional change, but a side-effect of the braindead way Diablo 2 handles legacy items when their stats change. There exists a recipe to update the most important items.

But i guess my biggest problem is know how to build a good character i have seen the tuts and they look good but the biggest problem in know which stats to distribute the points into and which skills to distribute them into at each level! I love Summon Necro's My biggest problem was i wasnt using totems i was using crossbow skills i guess i need to make a Summon/Totem Necro like Manimarco's Pure Summon Necro! But he really didn't tell me how to distribute the points into each attribute cause when i start and i level i distribute my 5 points into Str and thats probably the problem is im not distributing them properly ok i got a Level 32 Summon Necro i just made! He has
Strength [75] Attack damage - [19-57]
Dexterity [66] Attack Rating - [305]
Vitality [58] Stamina - [378]Life [796]
Energy [66] Mana - [919]
Resists [Low-Mid]
Fire [36]
Cold [35]
Lightning [74]
Poison [45]
You didn't say what problems you have.
And from what laz has said that Diablo 3 is banning Mods that will make it crap! Cause common face it Diablo 2 was long, hard and boring before the hacks came out! I remember it took me almost a year just to get to act 5 on LOD then the hax came out and then i was like thank god! Then Median 08 came out then i was like yes better skills then XL came out and it got harder but you still had some amazing stuff to work with cube recipes and all this other fancy stuff dupe recipe ubercharms that are a pain to get but very useful! I bet that people will play diablo 3 then when they beat it they will find out that they Banned modding and hacking then those people will revert back to Diablo 2 cause D3 wont be fun anymore! Laz i hope in the near future you will make another Median mod for D2 and it will blow both median's out of the water! Best of luck and thanks for this thrill ride you have provided for us!
Yea but common! 30 hits to kill one NPC at lvl 2. the first quest you need hax to even get it done!
that's not true even on /players 8, 3-5 hits should kill a creature let alone 30...
Why 'SHOULD' 3-5 hits kill a creature on /players 8... when you're in a level 5 area... at level 2?
Just because you found the entrance doesn't mean you absolutely HAVE to do the quest RIGHT NOW, especially when you've just left town and killed a handful of monsters.
Also, why 'SHOULD' 3-5 hits kill a /players 8 monster in the first place? It's the hardest setting for a reason and you can't just turn it on by default. Leave your hammerdin-tainted sense of balance at the door, please.
My bad, I'm Sorry, I tested it out again, started a new character on Terror Difficulty and on /players 8 it actually takes 10-15 Hits to kill a enemy, just outside of the camp.
My bad used to playing lvl 100 Necromancer....
wait I meant Hatred...
The /players 8 setting multiplies monster hp by x5.67, so if you kill the monster in 2-3 hits, it'll now take about 10-15 hits.
This life bonus is ridiculously high, which makes the game either too easy without /players x or too hard with it, but it's not like a mod can change that.
What the hell are you doing in the Den of Evil at level 2 on /players 8???
