I lately rediscovered Freelancer and wanna play the SP campaign again with Rebalance (which is a great experience so far!).

I've been playing the campaign for a couple hours and everything's going fine so far, no crashes, no glitches :-) One problem that i encounter on a regular base is that whenever a mission gets to killing many opponents, I get the "Mission Failed" screen saying I fled the battle. Then I have to start all over from the last savepoint. This is really bad because it can take a long time when there are cutscenes (that can't be skipped).

Is there any fix or workaround for this?

I just started replaying single player my self to check it was working, some one else posted had an issue,
noticed the same thing my self twice got the message i was too far away,
but since i dont play single player much i figured it was prob me not paying attention an wandering too far.

It might well be due to such a simple thing like
rebalance provides alot more speed to ships than vanilla~
so it would be easy to race out range just following to circling one kill.

Npc's dont seem to bother about range so atm all i can say is watch that u stay in range of mission your self.
Ill look into trying to increase ranges to the missison areas are larger or the message provides longer before terminating the mission.

after further play testing im starting to get the feeling this is being produced for some random reason.
today i was close to my mission and still getting the error so it seems it may be being caused by some other unknown factor :(

this will obviously be harder to fix if its random or unknown.
looking into offsets atm.

Thanks for the fast answer. I just encountered another weird mission failed message.

On story mission 5, after Baxter Research station is destroyed and you have to fight the Rheinland ships. In the middle of the fight it always pops up saying "You failed to destroy the Rheinland ships." It has nothing to do with getting too far away because if i do so, I get a warning from Juni.

I've reloaded and tried about ten times now and this really seems to break the campaign :-(

I have not had this problem in version 4.85. I've had several other issues, but the only time I've gotten this message is when I actually did run away.

Probably he means Rebalance because you can't play normal SP in Discovery 4.85. Anyway, refering to 3.56 RC4, it's impossible to end story mission 5. I've completely re-installed the game (crossfire - which imho sucks - messes up Freelancer somehow) and startet the mission all over. Get stuck at the same point.

I've read through Rasauul mission editing tuts and tried to modify the mission triggers. In m05.ini there are only four mission fail triggers:

These four clearly are for entering a base, another system and the death of Juni or Sinclair. There aren't any more fail triggers, so there must be another .ini with generic fail conditions (fleeing, the one I encountered now). Finding and editing those might ensure Story SP compatibility with Rebalance.

Anyone know where to find them? I really wanna make that work as Rebalance is the perfect mod for playing the campaign...

it appears to be calling distance so im increasing the distance to trigger to hope it helps.

Tanjitsu, I don't think it's distance. In that specific mission i experimented a lot yesterday:
- If you stand still and wait out (invulnerable), the mission is failed after about 1:36 min every time
- If you destroy the gunship or *some* fighters, there seems to be more time (roughly 3 min)
- if you flee (fly away with cruise engine), juni will comm you saying you are getting too far away

So I figured it could be a time limit. That doesn't really make sense in terms of the gameplay, especially as there's already a distance fail trigger to make sure you don't just get away.

I got past mission 5 by defeating all fighters in less than 3 mins (buying most heavy firepower, invulnerable cheat, just sitting in one place and destroy a fighter when he comes straight at me).

In the next mission, after the race, you have to defeat several waves of Rheinland ships too. It is exactly the same then, if it takes "too long" (more than one and a half minute) the mission is failed.

So maybe this time limit can be found and removed. And if you're able to increase the flee trigger distance that would be great too in all other missions ;-)

but my tests of changing figures havent provided a fix yet :(
also looked at StayInRange, but i think thats to tell the npc's to stay in x range of object.

Verified, this is a timing problem not a distance issue. I get it on SP mission #1 during the Rogue attack on the way to Pittsburgh. Since I parked my ship (speed = 0) right beside the Freighters, is cannot be distance. I hope you get it fixed soon, or I will have to reinstall with non-SP as this break the SP game. One possible area to consider: Do you have any 'contests' that are timed? Some of those variables might be interfering.

ive only mostly fixed errors and added external new bits in.
could i fixed somet that was broke which causes the problem but :D

atleast were makin headway on tracking it.

EDIT - Snip - The 'fix' I though I had turned out to not be one after all. I guess I was just 'lucky' and got through the first part of the mission. I have since 'failed' after saving the prison ship when rescuing the pilot being swarmed by Rogue, and after trying it 4 times, managed to get though only to 'fail' when you head into the cloud, see a few Rogue who then turn and run back to their base. I even destroyed two of them, but still failed for leaving the mission area.

I wish I could help but I do not know this code, and cannot tell what is proper.

Still, this is the best mod even if I cannot play SP. The rest promise good ships, addons, systems, and economy but this is the only one that actually delivers all that with a side helping of quality. I nearly laughed coffee out of my nose when I saw some of those Discovery ships in game (just so they could claim the most ships?).

lol

cant say ive played discovery so i coulndt comment but Rb was the best when i started playing freelancer so i stuck by it ;)

Code is my problem too, never worked on single player before its rather confusing trying to follow what happends in those mission files :P

Ive found what looked to be fixes then same happened endup just being random so sometimes is all smooth others it fails.
ill keep at it.

I don't have the quota to get RC4, so I tried with 3.55 full. Using a previous save game, I saved on Baxter, just before it's destroyed. Launched and did nothing, still there after four minutes. So, either there's something in the save game preventing it, it doesn't happen with 3.55, or I just didn't test it right. I could try with someone else's save game, otherwise you're on your own until I get some more net and the latest RC.

TBA i think youd be best to wait till ur able to get RC4.
I dont know alot about Saves but the difference between 3.55 and 3.56 is huge,
So i cant amagine ud be able to replicate the same problems.
I do belive ive had people in the past saying single player worked fine.

Ive only really had Single player complaints since Rc4 was released.
that said i dont know how many people just ignored the error as maybe there own mistake in Rc3 and how many reported it.

Things i changed in Rc 4 that could poss effect are

Engine speeds increased.
New Ship Surs.
Baydoors added.
Multicruise Dll added
Callsign Dll added

Im producing the error with out a save game just by starting fresh.
Ill try booting up 3.55 if i get chance to test for same problem
but i dont think it will exist, its only appeared since i fixed things.#

been over 2 years since i released 3.56 and started working on Rc's

I am replying to the mission 5 failing post!! I noticed that on several missions if you don't wait until your wingman is done talking before you destroy an enemy you will have the problem, like it doesn't record the kill until the comm traffic is over. I ran into that same problem on the mission first attempt to get the proteous tote where you have to destroy the two weapons platforms, if you kill a platform prior to the comm traffic, go kill the other, the mission will fail saying you failed to destroy the weapons platform....... So I guess it has to do with being able to go faster than the vanila version....... So be patient and listen to there BS....

My games failing had nothing to do with not waiting, since I did not destroy anyone before scripted dialogue was completed. Your description for M5 does sound like a different problem, and your work-around of "be patient and listen to their BS" sounds good to fix that problem.

As for me I am putting Freelance back in the box for now. I started an open SP Rebalance game a few days ago and discovered there are a lot of things that need to be balanced before this is playable (for me). If I had the time I would lend a hand, but right now I am up to my eyes learning 3DS Max.

My Scenes Cut mod speeds up the action a bit, so if you want to go that one step further you could remove all the dialog.

I'll have another look at the problem quite a bit later - really gotta finish everything else I've started, first.

But yeah would be awsome if you do get chance to cast your eye over the latest version for a possible fix to keep Single player intact.
Ill add in your scenes removal as a choice option on install if poss. always nice to give people the ability to play as they prefer.
the more options the better i recon.

FWIW, I played through FL:RB 5.56 RC3 single player with no problems.

Was good to have that comnfirmed with out pulling out old files to test :)
We know the cause is the speed increases in engines.
Seems to cause the problem.

Will prob revert back to original engine setups untill a solution can be found.

For those who want, can exchange the Rc4 engines with the old Rc3 ones here Download
Try using those see if it helps.

Is not really a fix to step back but will work for now im sure.

No problem, glad to help. I am eager for the next version, so I didn't want you to have to waste time if you thought the problem existed beforehand.

On an unrelated note, is it possible to move a save file between single player, open single player, and multiplayer?

Yes you can, when u start the mod u have to pick the options, the option for OSP creates a seperate save file to that of the normal SP
what i mean is that you will end up with several folders in ur save game folder... u must find the right folder then the right file and move them about
just find which is which using a save game editor and move them about
as for MP im not sure

Tis very true Gmmll but...

Rebalance has no control over your saves.
It creates saves based on the orginal freelancer setup.
So a save made with a mod enabled will prob cause crashes if you try and use it with out the mod due to missing items.

What Gmmll is refering too is a Mod Manager feature.
In the options at the top of FLmm is the option to changes saves.

When ever u activate or deactivate a mod Flmm moves your files to a new folder or retreives the old ones for the mod active.
This helps alot when changing play styles with out loosing old save.

However on the point of Moving Sp to Op to Mp in Rebalance.
Although, to some degree this will work fine.
Op and Mp are essentially the same, except Mp holds saves sever side so if your playing online you have no save file.
Sp is slightly different but should cause no real problems.

As Gmmll suggested using a save editor can often fix problems but always back up your save before you edit it, as it can also cause problems ;)
